Azerbaijani carpets as modern art
Baku multimedia artist Faig Ahmedcreates original works of art, reinterpreting and transforming traditional Azerbaijani handmade carpets. The artist deconstructs the conventional structure of carpets and randomly alters or rearranges their components, drawing inspiration from modern geometry. We are used to seeing wallpaper on the walls of a room, tiles or traditional carpets, but the result of the designer’s work is at times simply hypnotizing: a space of irregular lines and patterns, either “flowing” from the carpet onto the floor, or protruding beyond its limits or forming bulges and irregularities. Such a non-standard design probably hurts the eyes of perfectionists and conservatives. I really want to fix everything!
The combination of traditional and modern isa key aspect defining Azerbaijani carpets by Faig Ahmed. “My work is aimed at transforming the established boundaries of perception beyond recognition. To be honest, I do things without thinking, it's my instant expression of creativity. The same changes occur in the modern world every day - ideas that have been formed over centuries suddenly change in an instant. I simply make bold experiments and place them in the art space, trusting myself and my art to the viewer’s opinion.”
I think most of you would like to see theseworks in a museum, but would you dare to experiment with these unusual carpets at home? On the wall or on the floor, such an original design will look interesting in any modern interior, along with good wallpaper, such as here http://skladoboev.com.ua/italy/.
