The art of carving silhouettes on leaves: Lorenzo Duran

There is something incredibly magical about theseminiature works of art, painstaking, delicate jewelry work on tree leaves, not on paper. It would be easy to think that the amazing precision and accuracy of such complex drawings is achieved with the help of laser cutting. But no... not a single dry leaf of wood could withstand the laser, these masterpieces are completely handmade by the master Lorenzo Duran.Naturayarte is an art project by Lorenzo andhis family. The idea of creating such masterpieces on natural material came to the master while studying the centuries-old experience of paper cutting art in China, Japan, Germany and Switzerland. The symmetry of the patterns, their precision, accuracy and lace-like appearance are simply amazing, especially considering the absence of modern tools and devices before. At first, Lorenzo's experiments included paper, and then he turned his attention to a more natural and organic material - tree foliage. All the cutting, drying and framing work was donedeveloped by the artist himself, after many experiments and slow improvement of the method. Many leaves ended up in the trash before the process was perfected. Before starting the delicate cutting with a scalpel, Lorenzo selects a leaf of the appropriate thickness, washes, shapes and dries it.The drawing is transferred onto the sheet using tracing paper. The most difficult part, according to the master, is the final stage of the work, when you need to carefully remove the cut parts from the body of the leaf. Sometimes one careless movement can ruin several days of work. But the result is always unique and unrepeatable!Photos: naturayarte.
