How to make a brooch from polymer clay, ceramic floristry lessons, step-by-step photos of creating a brooch "Autumn Astra"
In this article we will make a brooch with you frompolymer clay. These accessories were among the very first to appear. As soon as ancient man threw a skin over his shoulders to protect himself from the cold, he needed to pin this cape with something. Animal fangs and bones or plants with thorns were used as brooches. With the advent of metals in human life, brooches acquired the appearance of a hairpin - fibula and buckles - agraffe. They not only fastened clothes. Brooches in the Middle Ages also served as an indicator of the status, wealth and high financial position of the owner. In the modern world, fashion trends dictate a new wave - handmade jewelry. Original and distinctive things will be a real find for ladies who are not afraid to be in sight and attract attention to themselves with their impeccable taste. Polymer clay is a great option for such ideas. A wide range of colors and shades, mother-of-pearl, glitter, metallic effect or fluorescence allow you to mold brooches in a variety of styles from plastic. In this article, we have ceramic floristry or a polymer clay brooch in the form of an aster. "Astra" is translated as "star". According to one legend, this flower appeared on earth when star dust fell to the earth. Now the bright lights of the stars sparkle in the sky, and asters delight with colors on the earth.Materials for work;
- Polymer clay (since there are many shades of color, choose the ones you like best) you need three colors - petals, core and leaves, for us it is beige, light lilac and green;
- Acrylic rolling pin or paste machine (if you did not have one at hand, you can use a glass bottle, the main thing is that it does not have protruding seams);
- Toothpicks;
- Old toothbrush;
- Liquid polymer clay;
- Gloves;
- Shape in the form of an asterisk (you can use a small form for baking);
- Stationery knife;
- Scissors;
- Hairpin base for brooch (we need one that has a flat base where you can attach a flower;
- Glass or ceramic tiles as a working surface.
Before working, the clay needs to be thoroughly kneaded.It is better to work on a flat and clean surface with gloves, since the plastic is very sensitive to fingerprints and absorbs all the debris almost instantly. The core. Take a piece of beige plastic and form a droplet out of it. Now you need to press the bristles of the toothbrush to the wide base of the droplet. This way we give the core a "fluffiness".Leaves.Roll out the dark green thermoplastic into a layer of about 2 mm. Cut out the leaves with our mold (we have six of them). Draw veins on them with a toothpick. The tips of the rays need to be slightly flattened and bent (see photo). Cut our workpiece into 2 parts.
Petals.It is necessary to roll out the lilac plastic into a layer of approximately 1.5 mm. Then we cut our layer into strips 2 cm wide. The strips do not necessarily have to be long, it is most convenient to work with blanks approximately 5 cm long.
We take our ribbon and cut one side intofringe about 1/2 - 2/3 of the width. The thin layer of plastic from the heat of your hands can become too soft, and it will be inconvenient to cut it. In this case, you can put the blank in the refrigerator for a couple of minutes. The number of blanks will depend only on how fluffy you want the flower to be. Now take our core and start wrapping it around the strip. When you think that the aster is fluffy enough, carefully smooth out all the edges of the joints (see photo).
Now comes the most interesting part - assemblyasters. Apply a little liquid polymer clay to the base of the pin. Arrange the leaves. Cut off the stem of our aster so that it fits between the leaves.
Now all that's left is to bake our brooch in the oven. Strictly follow the instructions on the clay package.
