In the event that your son got the role of a mischievous sailor at the matinee, or he himself chose such a costume for the holiday, you will have to puzzle over. And if there are no problems with a shirt and trousers, then where to find suitable attributes. Some comb all the stores in search of a collar and a sailor cap of the right size, and someone calls relatives and friends in the hope of finding the right costume. Our article suggests you do it differently. Try to sew the attributes of the naval uniform with your own hands, because such work is not as difficult as it may seem at first glance. Sailor costume The basis of the costume is a white shirt and trousers. For the sailor's trousers, you can use any black or white straight-cut pants. And to make them even more similar to a naval uniform, iron the creases and find a wide black belt with a metal buckle. As for the shirt, there are quite a few options. You can sew it using an ordinary shirt as a basis. Just remove the line of buttons, making a solid front shelf and a V-neck. You can simply take a regular white T-shirt and sew sleeves to it. Sew cuffs made of blue fabric to them, the width of which will be equal to half the child's wrist. Complete the shirt with a blue or light blue collar framed with three white stripes of satin fabric or ribbons. How to sew a collar for a sailor suit with your own hands When creating a pattern, it is quite difficult to name any specific numbers. Here you need to proceed exclusively from the individual measurements of the child. Jack - This is what the collar is called, it should lie flat on your baby's shoulders, slightly covering the back. It should not hang down like a cape. Choose a suitable fabric for the collar in light blue or blue. It is not necessary to take cotton fabric, you can choose denim, etc. Make two identical parts as illustrated in the photo.Connect them with the right sides facing inwards and sew along the outline, leaving the lower part unsewn. To prevent the fabric of the finished collar from pulling, be sure to make notches in the rounding areas.
Turn the collar right side out, carefullyIron it, carefully baste the free part, bending the edges inward. Iron the lower part. Now you should start decorating the guis. Traditionally, it is decorated with three white ribbons sewn along the outer edge. We do not have to strictly follow the rules, so one ribbon will do. Prepare a white satin ribbon of the required length and start decorating.
First baste it all over the outsideperimeter, and then stitch it on a sewing machine. As you understand, the lower part of the collar is additionally sewn together with the ribbon. Do-it-yourself sailor's beret The simplest version of a sailor's beret can be sewn even by a person who has never seriously encountered sewing. Everything is quite simple, you do not even need to use a pattern. Just follow the instructions below, and then everything will turn out great for you. First, you need to cut out two circles from white fabric, as well as two rectangles. Choose the diameter of the base circles yourself, based on the circumference of your son's head. The total length of the two rectangles will be equal to the length of the circumference plus seam allowances. The height of the rectangles will correspond to twice the height of the headdress, in this case it is 16 cm. If your fabric allows you to cut one long rectangle, then make it one piece so as not to do extra work.
Now you need to process the edges. If you have an overlock - that's great, if you don't - use the zigzag stitch on your machine, or you can overcast the edges by hand. Sew the two rectangles together on both sides. Leave about one cm unsewn on one side, just short of the middle - we'll insert the elastic through this hole. When the work is done, iron all the seams carefully. Next, you should sew a seam at a height of about 1.5 - 2 cm. It can be made decorative.
Sweep the inner brim of the beret to the round base. Turn it inside out and hide the seam between the two brim pieces.
Carefully fold the edges of the outer edge inwards, as you can see in the photo. Sweep all the layers again, then stitch them on a sewing machine. Remove the basting threads.
Insert the elastic into the hole that was left unstitched, tighten it to the size you need, and sew its edges. Sew the hole for the elastic with a blind stitch.
The beret for your sailor is ready. All you have to do is make a blue pompom for it. It's simple here, and many people know how to do it. Cut out two circles from cardboard, make two more small circles inside and cut each piece on the side. Put them together, then wrap them well with blue yarn. If you want to get a fluffier pompom, wrap it with threads as tightly as possible. Finally, you need to cut the yarn with manicure scissors in the middle between two pieces of cardboard, stretch them a little, insert the thread between them and tie the yarn tightly. That's it, the pompom is ready.
Carefully trim all the loose threads so that the pompom has a nice, even shape, sew it to the beret and the hat for your favorite sailor is ready.
A sailor's cap for your favorite sailor. In order tomake a pattern for a sailor cap, first you need to measure the circumference of your baby's head. Put the resulting figure horizontally on a sheet of paper, and 6-7 cm will be enough vertically. To begin with, all the details will be cut out of interlining. The resulting rectangle will become the cap band. Now you need to cut out the crown of the hat, it will be the same diameter as the previous detail. In accordance with the second detail, cut out the third detail, which will correspond to the top. As a result, you should have three details for the hat in front of you, you can see an example in the photo.
Now the band detail, made of interliningneed to be glued to the blue fabric, use an iron for this purpose. Glue the other two parts to the white fabric in the same way. After that, cut out all three parts, leaving allowances of 1-1.5 cm.
Bend the band piece in half and sew it tightlyIron it. The denser the piece, the better, although it will be quite difficult to sew. Sweep the crown and the top of the hat together along the edge and sew with a sewing machine along the outer circle.
To ensure that the headdress keeps its shape as much as possiblebetter, give the edges a zigzag shape around the circle. Turn the piece inside out and iron it. Next, you need to baste the band piece with the crown. After making sure that all the pieces match in size, there are no extra folds anywhere, sew the pieces together.
Don't forget about the special attribute of such a hat - these are, of course, two ribbons, they need to be sewn on the back to the band. First, pin the ribbons to the product with pins and stitch them along the perimeter.
Finally, if you wish, you can sew an anchor to the sailor's cap. Now the sailor's headdress is ready.
DIY Sailor Carnival CostumeSailor suits are available for both boys and girls. Find a white blouse without any additional colored elements, you can draw blue stripes on it if you wish. And the sailor blouse is ready. Sew the collar. Mark the length of the collar vertically, add the height of the neck bend on the back. You should get a kind of square. Determine the length of the straps by setting a vertical line from the extreme shoulder width designation (30 cm is enough). Now draw two segments from the points corresponding to the width of the strap to the point corresponding to its length. You should get it as in the diagram.
Next, redraw the pattern onto the folded face.inside the fabric and cut out the details. Decorate the part that will match the front side with white ribbons, sewing them along the perimeter. Next, sew the two parts together with the front side, leaving the bottom unsewn. Through it, you need to turn the collar to the front side and smooth the part out well. Now baste the bottom of the product, tucking the edges inward. Stitch the bottom on a sewing machine. The collar for the girl sailor is ready. As for the bottom of the girl's costume, the shorts or pants just need to be replaced with a blue skirt. A half-sun skirt is a good choice for a sailor costume. Straight or pleated skirts also go well with military suits. A straight skirt is best suited for a tunic, and a pleated skirt is best suited for T-shirts. To cut out a straight skirt, you need to take two measurements: the length of the product, as well as the waist circumference. Calculate the width of the product by multiplying the waist measurement by 1.33. For example, if the waist measurement is 53 cm, then multiplying it by 1.33 will give you a value of 70.49. Round the value to the nearest whole number and measure 71 cm on the fabric.
You need to make two rectangles. The first of which will correspond to the length of the skirt and the width of the product (in our example - this is 71 cm). The second rectangle will be needed to make the belt. Its length will be equal to the waist circumference (in our case - this is 53 cm), the width is 15 cm. Connect each of the rectangles separately into a circle. Fold the belt in half so that the free ends are on top. Prepare a thick elastic band, the width of which will be approximately 1.5-2 cm, measure it according to the waist circumference and also connect it into a circle. The elastic band must be inserted into the belt and its edges must be connected using a sewing machine. Now mark 8 points on the belt and the upper part of the skirt. To do this, fold each of the parts in half four times, pinning the bends with pins. Next, we will sew the belt to the skirt from one pin to another, stretching the belt to the mark on the skirt. Fold the bottom of the product and stitch it with a machine stitch. Skirt with pleats for a sailor girl This model should be sewn as follows: measure the length of the product on the fabric, taking into account the seam allowances, the width is calculated from the waist circumference, as well as the size of the pleats.
You can make the folds the same or leave them outtowards each other, pinning them with needles. As a result, the top of the product should correspond to the girl's waist circumference plus 2 cm for allowances. Stitch the top of the skirt, ironing the folds, machine stitch the bottom of the product, tucking in the edges, and sew on the belt. The first and second versions of the skirt can be made without a sewn-on belt, simply sewing in an elastic band. Keep in mind that if you do not have much experience in sewing, after each completed action, apply the product to the child so that you get everything right. Experience and skills come with time and practice. As you can see for yourself, making a sailor carnival costume is not that difficult. Most often, everyday life items are used as a basis. These can be trousers, shirts, belts, etc. Therefore, before sounding the alarm, carefully review the wardrobe of all your loved ones, there will definitely be those items of clothing that can be remade for your baby. The second important condition is the availability of free time. This is not surprising, because it is very difficult for mothers, especially working ones, to find free time for these purposes. If, on top of everything else, you need to buy missing materials and decorative elements, then there may be no time left at all. Therefore, think in advance and plan your free time for creating a carnival costume, so that you can gradually cope with it, and not sit up all night. If you still can’t find suitable clothes, then you need to sew them yourself. Do not try to find a pattern for the required costume. Just find a suitable pattern of ordinary clothes that will match the costume. In the case of a sailor, this can be a shirt or trousers. There are many variations of making a sailor costume, but so that your child can feel confident, comfortable and relaxed, choose the model in which he will be comfortable and which he really likes.
