Learning to embroider pillows:main types and patterns of embroidery Most modern people strive to create an atmosphere of warmth and comfort in their home. In many cities there are shops selling various decorative items. Despite their attractive appearance, not all of them have the appropriate energy. In this regard, handmade products are more preferable. They not only reflect the homemaker's sense of style, but are also filled with her positive energy. Perhaps the most ancient women's needlework is embroidery. It was used to decorate towels, items of clothing, bed linen, incl. pillows. Hand embroidery is quite a painstaking task, therefore, to master it you will need to spend some of your personal time and make efforts. For beginner craftsmen and those who are limited in time, ready-made embroidery kits will be a good help. In addition to the pillow blank (bottom and front parts), they contain threads, patterns, and a needle. In addition, you will need scissors and a hoop. Cross stitch the pillow.Cross stitch has gained popularity due to its simplicity. This technique, at first glance, does not represent anything extraordinary – Just two crossed stitches, but the finished work looks like real masterpieces. This embroidery does not require special materials or tools. Almost any type of fabric is chosen as the basis, only if possible with noticeable weaves in the form of cells. These include cotton, tapestry fabric, special canvas, linen and calico. Before you start, you need to take a stuffed pillow. You can pre-sew the pillowcase and then proceed directly to embroidery, but we recommend doing the opposite. Ready-made kits sold often contain“Stramine” fabric, which is very dense and elastic, with large weave cells. For this fabric, the threads chosen are thick, similar to those used in knitting. One of the disadvantages of such sets is that the crosses are too large. For more elegant and delicate work, it is better to take up embroidery of a pillow with a picture. Try to leave about 2-3 centimeters of allowance at the edges of the canvas, since we will then sew this part to the back. Choose threads at your discretion, almost any will do. We advise you to do embroidery using more than one thread so that the picture does not turn out dull. Using wool threads will make a pillowmore practical, since this type of thread is not capricious. At the end of the embroidery, you should cut out the back part of the canvas to the size of the front one. You can sew a zipper on the side or in the middle so that you can wash the pillowcase. Although, as a rule, a pillowcase is stitched on 3 sides, after which it is washed and ironed. Place the pillow in the pillowcase and lightly sew it up on the fourth side. If necessary, you can unravel the seam and wash it if necessary. We embroider the pillow with ribbons. At first glance, this technique seems very difficult to novice needlewomen, especially when they look at the unusual beauty of such products. However, with just a little practice, you won’t notice how this technique will become as simple for you as regular embroidery. For embroidery with ribbons you will need the samethe most tools and materials: threads (ribbons), needle, hoop, mesh type of fabric. Pay special attention to the choice of tape, or rather its size. As a rule, craftswomen use ribbons of 4 millimeters or more, but you should make sure that they will fit into the cells of the fabric and into the eye of the needle. When working with satin ribbons, you should use a sharp needle with an oblong eye. The ribbons should fit completely in the eye of the needle, without twists, and the needle itself should not tighten during the piercing process. In the same way as we tie a knot during normal sewing, we also do them at the tip of the ribbons. By and large, you can put an equal sign between ribbons and threads, which means that they embroider or similarly – stitch, “by the needle”, stem stitch, etc. But there are also special stitches for ribbons: a half-loop with an attachment, chain stitches, an elongated stitch, a loop in a circle, a loop with an attachment at the top, a forward needle, etc. With the help of such seams it is convenient to create all kinds of three-dimensional figures of insects, animals, birds, and flowers. Please note that embroidered ribbons should be used to decorate pillows that serve as decoration and are not used for sleeping. Ribbon embroidery is very attractive, but such a pillow can easily be damaged, and thanks to the volumetric elements, lying on it is not very comfortable. Fans of experimenting should be recommended not only ordinary types of fabric, but also such interesting ones as silk, velvet or denim. On such textures, ribbon embroidery looks very elegant and charming. Simple and elegant carpet embroidery of pillows. The essence of carpet embroidery is the use of a special needle, which helps to create pile identical to carpet pile, varying in length. To calculate the length, a simple formula is used: the distance from the diagonal cut to the plastic handle is divided in two, for example, when you need a pile one centimeter long, you need to extend the needle two centimeters. Using the standard method, thread the thread almostThis is impossible due to its large thickness, so we use a special threader. When piercing fabric, try to stick the needle to the very end, while inserting it with an oblique cut to the left. Carefully pulling out the needle, another hole is made after 1-2 millimeters. The main thing is not to bring the needle too high intime in reverse movements, as this can lead to uneven pile lengths and sometimes the entire embroidery unraveling. To create an elegant and attractive pattern, you should use a number of practical tips. Before starting work, draw the outlines of your embroidery onto the fabric (using a pencil or a special felt-tip pen). First, embroider the edge of the entire outline, as if tracing it. Thanks to this, you will not make a mistake later and will not confuse the colors. After “circling” proceed to “filling it out” from right to left with a stitch of the corresponding color. Having finished embroidering the design, proceed to the background. Even though there is no outline here, the filling technique remains the same. Linen fabric – an excellent basis for embroidering a pillow using the carpet technique, since for it the presence of visible weaves is not important. Pillows made using carpet technology are perfect for their intended use, and due to their “terry” texture Children will especially like their softness. We embroider the pillow with beads. This technique will require special care, painstaking and perseverance from you. For those who do not yet feel very confident in bead embroidery, it is worth using a mixed technique: cross-stitch the pillow, and then apply a series of elegant strokes with beads. The choice of fabric for beading technique is determined by the type of canvas. Select a needle with small eyes and do not forget to check that the smallest beads are put on them. All beads are sewn in color usingstitch called "half cross". This type of stitch is quite easy and even beginner craftswomen can do it, but the main thing is to sew the beads evenly. As a rule, beading technique is used in conjunction with ribbon embroidery, satin stitch, and cross stitch. But you can try to embroider the pillow only with beads. For this purpose, you need to use a special scheme that helps to avoid mistakes in counting the number of beads. Try to select beads of approximately the same size and proper quality, which will contribute to a much more attractive embroidery. We introduced you to several pillow embroidery techniques.
