When knitting hats, sweaters, pullovers,vests, scarves and other items, a pattern with a "braid" pattern is used. Things with such a knitting pattern look very stylish and beautiful. There are various patterns for knitting a braid, and accordingly, the names are different. Here are some examples of the names of such patterns: double-sided braid, voluminous braids, spikelet braid, decorative braid, Celtic braid, large braid, hidden braids. And this is not all the variety of knitted braids. Braids look very beautiful against the background of garter stitch or rice knitting. However, you can choose the knitting background to your taste. The so-called double-sided braid is easy to perform. It is recommended to use when knitting scarves, since the knitting pattern will be the same on both the front and back sides. The double-sided braid pattern is knitted with a 1x1 or 2x2 elastic band: 2 purl stitches, 2 knit stitches; 2 purl, 2 knit stitches – a total of 8 stitches. In our example, we use a pattern with two braids. In one braid, the stitches cross with a tilt to the right, in the second braid with a tilt to the left.Knit a sample. The first 2 sts are edge sts: 1 st.remove without knitting, then knit 1 front. Then knit several loops with the main knitting. In our sample, this is the "rice" pattern: knit the front loops with a purl knitting, and the purl loops with a front one. Then cross the braid with a tilt to the right. To do this, remove the first 4 sts without knitting and place them behind the work (you can put them on a pin or an additional knitting needle).Knit the next 4 sts according to the pattern: 2 purl, 2 knit.Place the previously left 4 loops on the left knitting needle and knit them - 2 out., 2 front. Then tilt the second braid to the left. To do this, remove the first 4 loops without knitting and place them in front of the work. Knit the next 4 loops according to the pattern - 2 out., 2 front. Place the removed loops on the left knitting needle and knit them, 2 out., 2 front.Next we move on to the main knitting, that is, we knitknit stitches as purl stitches, and purl stitches as knit stitches. The last 2 stitches are edge stitches, knit 1 stitch as a knit stitch and the last stitch as a purl stitch. Turn the work to the wrong side. The first 2 stitches are edge stitches, remove without knitting. Continue according to the main knitting pattern: knit stitches as knit stitches, purl stitches as purl stitches. The braid stitches are also knitted according to the pattern: 2 knit stitches, 2 purl stitches. The second braid is knitted in the same way: 2 knit stitches, 2 purl stitches.Last 2 edge loops, first loopremove the second one without knitting – knit with the wrong side. After knitting several rows, cross it again. Choose the number of rows yourself. We recommend taking 8 rows. After knitting the rows to the cross, you will see that the braid pattern consists of a regular 2 by 2 elastic band. Due to the cross, the elastic band turns into a braid, which in the finished product looks much more beautiful and elegant than a regular elastic band. Agree that knitting a double-sided braid is not difficult even for beginner craftswomen.
