Color yarn: draw attention to the condition of the sidewalks
Poor condition of sidewalks and pedestrian pathsare not unique to the post-Soviet countries. Potholes, cracks and ruts can often be found in Paris, too, although the condition of the roads there is, of course, much better than ours... But that's not what we're talking about now. But about an interesting art project by Juliana Santacruz Herrera on the streets of Paris, designed to fill in the gaps in the urban fabric of sidewalks and roads with bright threads. The artist started this landscaping projectParis, selectively decorating cracks and holes in the sidewalks with twisted yarn in all the colors of the rainbow. The threads seem to be alive, crawling and growing, creating strange formations that are so reminiscent of forest moss.Is it pure pleasure orfunctional solution is a matter of debate, although perhaps Parisians find these potholes less disruptive now, or at least well marked on the road. It's still unpleasant to hit a hole while jogging or to hit a pothole while rollerblading. It’s not hard to guess what this bright decoration of Parisian streets will look like after a couple of months of being exposed to rain, feet and wheels, but I really like the idea.
