Decorative cushion-knot with your own hands
Knots have been tied for thousands of years, and they are used not onlyfor business, but also for decorating clothes and home. Today we offer you unusual pillows for the interior, made using the knot weaving technique. The decorative knot pillow looks very stylish and modern, favorably differing from standard rectangular models. In online stores, such designer pillows cost a lot of money, and making them with your own hands is not as difficult as it may seem at first glance. Contents
How to make a base for a pillow-knot
To make a pillow you needsew the material from which we will weave macrame. You can, of course, take a thick rope or cord, but a pillow made of such material will be hard and purely decorative. If you want to have a soft pillow that you can put under your head or back, then you need to sew "tubes". Take the following materials:
- cut of knitted fabric or cotton (woolen) tights
- sintepon or batting
- cardboard roll from paper towels or toilet paper
- long stick for ramming the synthepon
- needle and thread
The easiest way to make tubes is from children's (orAdults) tights. Cut off the socks and the top with the elastic. Sew the two resulting stockings together into one. Instead of tights, you can use long knee-highs, sleeves of unnecessary sweaters or knitted cardigans. If you don’t have any old things or you need a tube that is much longer, you will have to sew the cover yourself and stuff it with filler. Take a piece of knitted fabric, cut it into strips 20-30 cm wide. The length of the finished tube should be 3-4 m, so if you have, for example, a piece of fabric 1.5 meters wide and 50 cm wide, cut it into two strips 25 cm wide, then sew them together to get a strip 3 m long. In this case, it is advisable to match the pattern, if there is one. Then sew the strip on a sewing machine with the right side inward, turn it inside out.
Insert into the resulting knitted tubea cardboard roll from paper towels. Instead, you can roll up a magazine, newspaper, or several A4 sheets. Start stuffing the tube with padding polyester or other filler. Use a stick (a long wooden spoon, a ruler, a small-diameter metal pipe) to push and compact the padding polyester. Remember that you will later weave macrame from this “boa constrictor,” so stuff it tightly and tightly so that you don’t get offended by obvious folds and creases in the most inappropriate places. Sew up the open ends.
Instead of synthetic padding, you can use it as a filleruse batting, an old flannel blanket, towels or other thick fabric. In this case, the order of work is slightly different. First, cut the filler into strips of 30-50 cm (depending on the density), sew together into one strip 3-4 cm long and roll it into a tight roll. Only then wrap the roll with knitted fabric, thus making a “cover”. This method is more labor-intensive, since you cannot use a sewing machine here and will have to sew 3 meters by hand.
For an example, watch the video where the tubes areare made from children's tights and the pillow is woven with a Celtic knot. A situation may arise when you have made a tube 3 meters long, but the chosen knot requires more. Then we advise either making a simpler knot, or having enough material in stock, making another synthetic tube and sewing them together.
Pillow knot: weaving options
For weaving a pillow, we recommend choosing somea beautiful complex pattern, purely decorative or quite practical in the marine business. In order not to immediately experiment with a large knitted tube, practice making the chosen knot on a rope or cord. In the video above, you could already familiarize yourself with the Celtic knot. Let's see what other beautiful and simple options you can try. By the way, with the help of these instructions you can make not only knot pillows, but also rope rugs, coasters for cups and dishes, decorative pendants and jewelry. "Flat knot"
"The Turk's Head"
Chinese or "For Good Luck"
These are just four examples of weaving pillows in the macrame style, but in open sources you can find a lot of knots that can be used as a basis.
