Embroidery pattern for the “Vladimirskaya” icon beads, embroidery of icons with beads, detailed master classes with diagrams and photos for beginners
Bead embroidery of the icon of the Mother of God“Vladimir” Church Tradition dates the creation of this icon to the first century AD. According to legend, the icon was painted by the Holy Apostle and Evangelist Luke on the boards of the table from the house of the Virgin Mary. Having traveled from Jerusalem to Constantinople, the icon ended up in Kyiv in the 12th century as a gift from the Constantinople Patriarch Yuri Dolgoruky. From Kyiv, through the efforts of Prince Andrei Bogolyubsky, the icon was transferred to Bogolyubovo, and from there to Vladimir, where it remained for a very long time, for which it received the name “Vladimir” among believers. This icon has demonstrated miraculous powers more than once.force, protecting Moscow from the troops of the formidable Tamerlane and the hordes of the Crimean Khan. The "Vladimir" icon of the Mother of God is addressed in prayers for the pacification of hostility, for deliverance from enemies, for preservation from schism and heresy, and not only. The day of veneration of the icon is set on June 3 (May 21). To create such an icon from beads, you need to buy bugles for two cells of canvas, beads No. 10, as well as beads for the halo and frame. Considering the size of the beads, we recommend using Aida canvas No. 14. If you do it according to the instructions for counted embroidery, the beads will lie flat on the canvas, without deformation. As a thread, you can use either white cotton No. 40 or white floss. To make the beads fit better to the fabric, sew with a thread folded in half. In the following illustration, you can see the embroidery pattern for the icon of Our Lady of Vladimir.
You can find out about the quantity and colors of beads needed for this embroidery from Table No. 1.
The finished icon should be 20x23.5centimeters, and taking into account the allowances - 30.5 x 33 centimeters. It is preferable to stretch the canvas on a tapestry-type hoop, because ordinary hoops do not allow you to move the bead embroidery while working on it. Beginner craftswomen often face the question: where to start the embroidery? Of course, starting from the center, you will not make a mistake with the canvas. However, it is worth remembering that when embroidering with beads, it is difficult to make a joint, embroidering in different directions, which is not observed with standard cross stitch. We recommend doing the embroidery from the upper left corner. For this purpose, we retreat from the canvas on the left and from the upper edge by 5 centimeters and begin embroidering the first row to the end, following the pattern. This row will also show how much space will remain on the other edge. Ideally, it will be 5 centimeters.
Whatever direction of embroidery you choosehorizontally or vertically, the main principle remains the same - embroider in rows, choosing the color of the beads in accordance with the pattern and using a stitch called "half-cross". If after completing the embroidery you want to wash your product (here much is determined by the degree of contamination and the quality of the beads: when using beads painted inside, you should not wash them again), then we advise you to sew on the beads after washing. This, in turn, means that the places marked on the pattern for beads must be skipped during the bead embroidery process. Sewing on glass beads can be done during embroidery. That's it, the icon of the Mother of God "Vladimirskaya" made of beads, embroidered with your own hands, is ready!
