Free master classes on creating brooch from beads with step-by-step photos
The butterfly is one of the most beautiful creatureson earth. At the same time, these bright beauties are already many hundreds of years old, they were born together with dinosaurs. Like many other animals, butterflies are symbols of beauty, joy and metamorphosis in many ancient cultures. In Japan, a butterfly flying into a house foretells happiness. In ancient times, origami butterflies were used as a symbol of the pure souls of the bride and groom at Japanese weddings. According to the legends of the Indians of North America, if you whisper your wish to a butterfly, it will carry it on its wings to the gods, and the wish will definitely come true. For the ancient Egyptians, butterflies were a symbol of rebirth. On the walls of many tombs, pictures depicting first a caterpillar, then a cocoon, and then a butterfly symbolized human life and the rebirth of the soul after death. In Greek mythology, the goddess Psyche was depicted as a beautiful woman with butterfly wings. In China, grooms give their brides butterflies as a sign of their eternal love. People strive to immortalize such a beautiful creation in their works. Butterflies are embroidered, drawn, molded and created from beads and beads. Our article is dedicated to the latter option. Here are two lessons on making brooches from beads, pearls and crystals in the form of butterflies.To create your first brooch you need to prepare:
- Beads 12/0 transparent iridescent beige and pearly brown, beige, light green, green, dark green;
- Gold, beige, green faceted beads of different diameters;
- Onyx beads 8 mm;
- Natural pearls of different diameters and artificial 4 mm (one long for calf);
- Two teardrop cabochons from aventurine 14x10x4 mm;
- Two teardrop-shaped pendants of olive green color 9x18 mm;
- Clasp;
- Flizelin;
- A piece of skin;
- A piece of thick paper and instant glue;
- A needle and a needle for beads.
Draw a butterfly and transfer the pattern tointerlining. Sew a pearl on the body location, gluing it additionally. Glue two cabochons on the upper wings. Take beads of different shades of green and sew the cabochons in 1 row, making a gradient with the lightest beads from the outer edge of the wings. In the second row of the trim, add some beige beads. (the second row is higher than the first).Using the same colors, embroider the border betweenupper wings and lower ones. Make the same smooth transition (dark in the center, light closer to the edges). To fill the empty spaces at the top of the wings, take dark green beads and faceted beads in the inner gap. For the outer voids, smoothly move to lighter tones of beads. Decorate the outer edges with pearls and beads. Place gold faceted beads on the very edge.Onyx beads can be split using an awlinto two parts (so that the pieces are not too big) or take two smaller cabochons. Decorate the lower wings of the butterfly with them. For the first row of trimming the lower cabochons, use the same beads as for the second row of trimming the upper large cabochons. Similarly to the upper wings, fill the empty spaces on the inside with dark beads, and on the outside with light beads and seed beads.Cut off a small part (according to the size) from a piece of leather.(larger than the butterfly). This will be the back side of the brooch. Mark the places and make holes for the pin. Coat the cutouts with glue and insert a pin there. Glue thick paper to the back side of the embroidered butterfly. It should be a couple of millimeters smaller around the perimeter than the embroidered blank. Apply glue to the paper back of the embroidery and glue it to the leather blank.Leave to dry for 15 minutes.Cut off the excess from the future brooch. Sew the edges of the upper wings with beads with a smooth gradient, including brown after beige. Use the "holes facing each other" method. Sew the lower edges with beads with a similar gradient. Where the pearls are located, attach 2 beads "holes outward". Sew beads in the same way in the places where the antennae are attached. This will make it easy to attach the pendants to the lower wings and antennae.For the pendants on the lower wings, use teardrop crystals and beads with exactly the same gradient as on the wings.You can choose the colors that will beharmonize directly with your outfit or idea. Experiment. The next butterfly brooch is no less beautiful and is made in gold and pearl tones.To create it you need to take:
- Natural river pearls are white, approximately 6 mm and 4 mm, grey, approximately 4 - 5 mm;
- Droplet beads made of natural mother of pearl;
- Artificial pearls (golden and flat light beige in color);
- Beads Abacus golden 4x6 mm and purple 3x5 mm;
- The beads are golden and violet;
- Line or monofilament;
- Hairpin for brooch;
- Steel wire 0.6 mm;
- Flizelin;
- Metal plate for flexible frame;
- A piece of leather.
Draw a butterfly pattern on the interlining.Take two white and four gray pearls for the body. Sew teardrop beads onto the upper wings and trim around with gold beads. Bring the needle to the front side of the trim in a row of gold beads closer to the thick base of the drop, string 7 beads on the fishing line and pass the needle through to the back side on the opposite side of the trimmed row. The row is as if on top of the teardrop bead. Bring the needle to the front side in the center of the thick base of the teardrop bead. String 3 beads, pass the fishing line through the fourth of the 7 beads, pass the fishing line back through the three previously picked up and through 1 bead of the trim row. Fasten the fishing line. Make symmetrical embroidery on the second upper wing. Sew large pearls on a teardrop bead and make rows of trim with gold beads. Similarly, sew on the bicones and make a row of trim. See the photo. Each subsequent bead after sewing must be trimmed with beads and then sew on the next one. Sew on a grain of rice, an abacus and a pearl of gray color.Sew on an artificial golden pearl andrice, 4 small pearls and sew around with gold beads. Attach a bicone, abacus, a 4 mm pearl and a 4 mm gray one. Sew the upper wing along the perimeter from below with gold beads. Sew on an artificial beige flat pearl. Sew everything with purple and gold beads. Sew up the gaps near the edges with gold beads. Sew on a small pearl and a bicone next to the teardrop bead. Sew up the gaps between the row of trim of the teardrop bead and the outline with gold-colored beads. Sew on two rows of purple beads along the central horizontal line. Fill the gaps in the center of the wing with gold-colored beads. Sew up the gaps near the pearls of the butterfly's body with gold-colored beads. Sew teardrop-shaped mother-of-pearl beads onto the lower wings and make the same mesh (of 7 and 3 beads) as you wove for the upper ones.Sew golden beads around the perimeterwing. Sew on a grain of rice, a pearl and a row of purple beads. Look at the photo more often. Sew on a grain of rice and two small pearls to the top. Sew up the gaps with gold-colored beads. Sew on the bicones and fill the nearest gaps with gold-colored beads. A metal frame is needed so that the wings retain their shape. Any can with even walls will do for its creation. Cut out a blank in the shape of our butterfly. It should be a couple of millimeters smaller than the beaded blank. Make 2 holes for attaching the pin. Process the entire edge with a file. Glue the interlining with beads and beads to the metal mold. Sew on the pin. Carefully ensure that the fishing line does not come into contact with the sharp edges of the holes.For the antennae, thread 1 onto a piece of wire.Place the bead and both tails together. Put on the pearl and beads. String the beads, pearl and 1 bead onto one of the tails of the wire in the reverse order and thread the wire back through the pearl and beads. Tighten the wire. Wrap it around the pin. Make a leather mold for the back side. Make holes in it for the spring and the hook of the hair clip. Apply glue, insert the pin parts into the holes and glue the leather part to the rest of the workpiece. Sew the edges using the brick weaving technique or as in the previous master class. Sew 1 pearl and 1 bead in the corners of the upper wings. Sew a pearl and a bead on the lower edges of the lower wings in the same way.After everything is sewn on, you can bend the wings as you like.
