The first ones appeared about 7 thousand years agoEarrings. Ancient people pierced their ears with pointed and curved pieces carved from bone, shells, and pebbles. They used their ears when hunting or on long journeys as storage for a flint or knife. Surprisingly, at the very beginning, they were worn mainly by men, and earrings served as status markers. They showed their position, wealth, nobility, for example, among the Egyptians, or, conversely, slavery, as in Rome. Gold earrings with pearls and precious stones emphasized the position of rich Greek and Egyptian women. Earrings, in addition to being decorative, were also considered amulets. Earrings put in girls' ears were intended to protect them from evil spirits, according to the beliefs of the inhabitants of Central Asia. Sailors believed that an earring in the ear would give their eyesight sharpness, thieves put on earrings as a sign of belonging to a criminal community. Among the Cossacks, the last man in the family or the only son of the mother wore an earring. The fashion for earrings sometimes faded during the period of medieval religious upsurge, and then again became relevant. Now earrings are simply a beautiful accessory that emphasizes the eyes and adds zest and completeness to the appearance. Handmade jewelry is gaining more and more popularity.
