Furniture and dishes from bast
This Lufa furniture design is the result of extensive experimentation with the tropical loofah plant sponge. The author of the concept is a native of Mexico, FernandoLaposse, currently a student at London's Central College of Art and Design. A series of handmade furniture and interior items inspired by childhood memories in a hot country. The project consists of a screen, a coffee table, a floor lamp, tableware and vases.Fernando has been involved in this for a long timeresearching the qualities of the loofah, trying to understand how else such an interesting material can be used and include it in the creation of other functional objects. As a result, each newly created object exploits one or more qualities of the material, such as lightness, transparency, thermal insulation, texture, cushioning. The designer combined the loofah with other materials, cut it in different ways, experimented with shape and size. The result of his efforts was original and extraordinary! And if you are inspired to use your sponges to create such original furniture and dishes with your own hands, then below is a small master class from a designer!
