House for birds - roof tiles
Reduction of the bird population in cities causedDutch designer Klaas Kuiken think about what he can do to improve the situation. As a result, an unusual roofing tile was developed - a small house for birds. Ornithological project is designed to create manyartificial nesting places for small birds near people's homes, or rather, directly on the roof of the house. For this, the designer also designed a birdhouse integrated with tiles. Such a birdhouse consists of a specially designed removable basket with ventilation and protection from predators, located directly on the tile, which is laid together with ordinary roofing tiles. In the house for birds there is access from below. The wooden bars form a comb-like barrier that does not allow the bird to enter the house, but at the same time leaving it possible to clean the space of the house after the nesting period.
The designer consulted Dutchornithologists about the internal structure of the birdhouse, while not forgetting the attractive and aesthetic appearance. Birds often nest in groups, so it is recommended to install several houses on the roof - tiles on the north and east sides.
The house for birds - tile was first developed in 2009, and only in 2012 the houses are made in a limited series of 100 pieces and are already available for sale.
