How to embroider a cross on clothes, popular patterns 2016 for cross-stitch with a description and photo.
Cross stitching throughout the centurieswas a means of decorating various wardrobe items. This concerned both clothes for holidays and for everyday wear. In 2016, the fashion for decorating wardrobe items with cross stitch is returning. And there is nothing surprising here, since clothes of this kind look discreet, but at the same time bright and non-trivial. Naturally, a correctly chosen embroidery motif can emphasize your individual style and special approach to clothing. That is why we will dedicate this master class to cross stitching on clothing. You have to start by choosing a thing, which you would like to decorate or update. It doesn’t matter what it will be: a new T-shirt or worn jeans, the main thing is that this wardrobe item matches the embroidery. We recommend taking a denim or cotton shirt or trousers for this task, since the cost is relatively low and they are very convenient to work with. Having decided on the clothes, you should decide where you want to do the embroidery. If it is a shirt, the pattern should be placed on the back, pockets or collar. If these are trousers, then a good option would be pockets or the area from the waist to the calves. In principle, there are quite a lot of options and you will have plenty to choose from. The main thing here is to focus on your individual style. After you have decided on what clothes and where to embroider, you will need to decide what to embroider. There are also enough pattern designs, so we recommend starting with simple ones, where the pattern is repeated. Those who consider themselves more experienced needlewomen can take on a more complex pattern. In any case, it is worth starting with something, and then the skill will appear. We have chosen everything, and it would seem that we can immediately start working. However, we still need to do some preparatory actions, or rather - wash the clothes. If you do not carry out this procedure, then the clothes may subsequently "shrink" and distort the embroidery. At the same time, you will test the quality of the dyeing of the fabric material.
Some not very experienced craftswomen do notdecide to do embroidery on items of their wardrobe due to the fact that there are no clearly defined squares on the fabric. The solution to this problem is to use overlay canvas. It is a stiff starched material with thick threads. The canvas is placed on the clothes in the place where the embroidery needs to be done, a pattern is formed over the canvas, after which it needs to be removed. Accordingly, you should decide on the size of the canvas. After you have cut it out, iron it to avoid distortions. When embroidering large plots, it is recommended to use whole pieces of canvas.
We determine the center of the area on the clothes wherethe embroidery and the center of the pattern will be located, which are combined with each other, after which the canvas is basted to the material. This is done in two ways: 1) we combine both centers and start sewing from this place; 2) a horizontal or vertical axis is marked on the clothes, similarly done on the canvas, after which the axes are combined. Basting should be done quite tightly and clearly, in order to avoid slipping and the formation of "wrinkled" areas. At the same time as basting, you can divide the canvas into 10x10 crosses. Of all the needles, we recommend choosing a thin, sharp one with a tiny eye, so that it does not leave traces of punctures on the material. Do not forget to protect your fingers with thimbles. Particular attention should be paid to the quality of the threads. It will determine the durability of the aesthetic appearance after a large number of washes. Threads should be of the same thickness, strength, and resistance to constant washing. If you buy threads of dubious quality, you should test their dye fastness. To do this, wash them in warm water and run them forcefully over white fabric. High-quality threads will not leave marks. Red threads are mostly subject to "shedding".
The stitches are formed over the weave.canvas. You should be careful when embroidering, so as not to pierce the weave of the canvas threads with a sharp needle, otherwise there will be difficulties with their removal later. It is advisable to embroider new crosses as close as possible to the old ones, tightening the thread more tightly. With this option, the rows will be more even, and the crosses will not be "loose". No less attention should be paid to the back side. Its execution requires the same accuracy. And the point here is not in the aesthetic meaning, but in the practical: excessive knots and the presence of long broaches can contribute to their appearance during ironing, as well as deformation of the pattern. Do not forget about the embroidery technique: the crosses should be done in the same order.
At the final stage, the canvas is removed. This is done after the final execution of the pattern, including the edging seams. It is preferable to pull out the canvas threads alternately horizontally and vertically in different places of the product. This way you will avoid distortion of the pattern. In the case when the overlay canvas is excessively starched, you can slightly wet it with water.
Let's say a few words about caring for the finished product. If you have machine washed the item of clothing on which you have made embroidery, you can continue to do so. However, if you are afraid of spoiling the embroidery, there are several ways to avoid this. For example, you can hand wash the item with a product that is delicate in relation to color and without bleach. Using dry cleaning is highly undesirable due to the aggressiveness of chemicals that can spoil the pattern. This is the fashionable thing we ended up with:
