Necessary tools and materials to sew a dress with your own hands:

piece of fabric 2.2 m; pattern of the dress base withlong sleeves, cut at the waist, with a flared hem (you can make it yourself, or you can copy a pattern from a fashion magazine); metal zipper in a contrasting color; knitted interlining; dressmaker's scissors; short and long ruler; threads; chalk/soap; straight-line sewing machine; overlock (preferably four-thread). If you have everything you need, you can start working.

How to sew a dress with your own hands: a master class

First you need to decate the fabric:soak in warm water, dry, iron with steam. Fold the fabric in half and lay out the pattern, saving as much fabric as possible. Add 1 cm to all cuts. Add 2 cm to the hem of the bottom and sleeves. Cut out the details. We baste and try on, cut off the excess. Pay attention to the machine stitching: make it as elastic as possible so that it does not burst. Sew the chest darts.Iron it down.Sew the shoulder seams, placing tape underneath to avoid stretching the seam.We overcast on an overlock. We iron towards the shelf. We sew the sleeves into the open armhole.We overcast. Sew the upper parts to the lower ones. We overcast the front and back waist cuts.Iron the front allowance up, onto the shelf, and the back allowances down. Iron the 1 cm wide strips for sewing in the zipper. Sew the side cuts, starting at the bottom of the sleeve, equalizing the allowances at the armhole, also equalizing the allowances at the waist (one allowance up, the other down, so that there is no large overlap). Overcast the side cuts.We overcast the cuts of the back center. We cut out the neck facing.We glue it with knitted interlining. We overcast the lower edge.Place the facing (located on top) and the dress face to face, starting from the bottom edge of the facing, stitching 1 cm from the edge.We make notches at the corners and along the entire allowance; the notches do not reach the line by 1–2 mm.Sew a finishing line along the facing from the front side, 2 mm from the seam.We sweep, forming an edging from the main part 1 mm.Iron. If the allowance shows through the fabric, cut it off close to the stitching. Place fastenings, connecting the shoulder allowance with the facing.Measure approximately 13 cm from the waist down along the back seam allowance, and from this mark stitch down to the end.Fold the seam allowance to the wrong side by 1 cm, place the zipper on top and baste it. Make finishing lines: the first one is 0.5 cm from the teeth.The second is 0.2 cm from the edge of the zipper.Add 3 cm from the end of the line and cut off the excess from the zipper.We close the “tail” with a piece of the main fabric 6 cm * 8 cm. We fold the bottom of the dress and the bottom of the sleeves with a 1 cm wide hem.We iron the dress, folding back the side seam allowancesside of the back. Let's try it on and enjoy the new thing!
