An interesting master-class drawing of a puma, made with coal, allows you to learn how to work in new technology

Master class drawing of a puma, made with charcoal,will be a great opportunity for you to get acquainted with a new drawing technique, work with interesting material, learn how to draw realistic images of animals. Of course, the first time, if you do not have the skills and you are not yet an experienced artist, you may not get exactly the same drawing as in the photo, but this is a matter of practice. A little effort and you can draw a wonderful picture yourself. You can draw with almost anything that is at hand, and not just pencils and paints. At the same time, the pictures turn out to be surprisingly beautiful and meaningful. Charcoal is one of these materials. Thanks to it, a skilled artist can create a real masterpiece, paint a beautiful portrait, transfer a favorite landscape to paper, display the character of a graceful animal and much more. Today we will draw an animal - a puma. This representative of the feline family has amazing smooth lines of the body. It is characterized by grace, majesty, unique beauty and strength. These are all the qualities that we need to try to transfer to our drawing. In order for the creative process not to seem complicated and not to cause too many difficulties, we will do the drawing in several stages. We will work by placing the base on a vertical easel. As a base, we will take tinted paper for charcoal. To make the drawing easier to draw, we will attach the base to a board on which a thick sheet of paper is already attached. In addition, we also need to prepare:

  • white pastel;
  • charcoal pressed wood in the form of sticks;
  • paper throws;
  • plastic soft eraser;
  • blade.

Step one First we will make a sketch of the animal,sketch. In the pictures below we have two such sketches. In the first case, the proportions of the muzzle and nose turned out to be somewhat incorrect. It is not advisable to continue drawing according to this sketch. The fact is that at the next stages this inaccuracy will somewhat distort the appearance of the animal. If we want the puma to be as realistic as possible, we need to correct the sketch and only then continue working, which is what we did.Master class drawing of a cougar made with charcoal. We will do it step by step, alternately drawing individual sections. You should start shading from the left side, the upper corner. First, shade the largest, darkest areas. Rub the charcoal with your finger, smear it. As a result of this action, shaded areas will appear. In order to draw lines and make them thin enough, the charcoal needs to be sharpened with a blade, but this must be done very carefully. The blunt end of the charcoal stick is well suited for applying shading to individual areas and drawing wider lines of the drawing. Large areas of the image can be shaded by pressing the charcoal horizontally to the paper. Using an eraser when working in this technique, we can create certain shapes of the object and its characteristic highlights. We will make brighter highlights with white pastel.Master class drawing of a cougar made with charcoal. Picture №3Stage three The work on the previous stages takes an average of three to four hours. At this stage, we gradually continue shading the puma, thereby coloring it in the desired color.Master class drawing of a cougar made with charcoal. This stump is perfect for smoothing out the color, smoothly transitioning small areas of the image into each other. If, by shading the charcoal with your finger, you can damage the drawing, blur the lines, then you should use this tool.Master class drawing of a cougar made with charcoal. This will result in an excellent contrast, which will visually increase the volume of the animal.Master class drawing of a cougar made with charcoal.
