Delightful
kanzashi new handicraft.It came to us not so long ago, but has already managed to become a favorite of many needlewomen. Having seen once chic lush crafts from ribbons, you will definitely want to try to understand what this handicraft is based on and how such decor can be made with your own hands.
Basically, the kanzashi technique is used forcreation of various hair ornaments in the form of original flowers. History tells us that Japanese women traditionally decorated their hair with fancy kanzashi items. Nowadays, kanzashi are most often used to decorate the heads of brides, they are used by people who honor the traditions of the land of the rising sun, as well as geishas.

In Japan, kanzashi is created using not onlyonly the satin ribbons we are used to. For their production, even wood is varnished, precious metals, tortoise shells, silk and even plastic are used. There are quite a few stylistic directions of kanzashi, the most popular of which is the creation of
In Japan, this technique is also called hana kanzashi.
Such handicrafts as hana kanzashi are created fromsquare pieces of the selected material. We know this technique as tsumami kanzashi. Each of the prepared square pieces is folded in a certain way using certain auxiliary tools, as well as with your own hands. One petal made of satin ribbons created in this way will later turn into a decor, a beautiful lush flower. In addition, the kanzashi technique is used to create completely different products. These can be the following crafts made of ribbons: original insects, amazing accessories in the form of brooches, earrings, necklaces, interesting New Year's decorations and various decor. You only need to choose a specific topic that interests you and begin a step-by-step study of kanzashi, which this master class (MK) presents.

Materials, tools and milestones

So, the story told us about what isKanzas and where it is used. Before you begin to study MK, Kanzashi for beginners, our lessons will consider what kind of details you need to have available in order to make your own crafts from tapes:

  • the most important point in the selection of material,is the choice of satin ribbons. Their width can be completely different (in cm), depending on what kind of product and what size you decided to make;
  • For beginner needlewomen, at first it is betterUse a ruler and measure the required number of cm, as well as a pencil, with which you need to make notes. They determine the number and length of the necessary parts;
  • scissors;
  • For work, also prepare a lighter orA candle, the flame of which will help you fix this or that element. The needlewomen, more seriously keen on kanzash, acquire for themselves a special burner or a soldering iron;
  • Tweezers - greatly facilitates the creation processPetals. It, at certain stages, fixes the prepared part in the right place, since it is often difficult to do this with your own hands, in view of the small size (about 5 by 5 cm) of the petal itself;
  • Purchase an adhesive or glue gun. Here, by trial and error, determine with which detail it will be easier for you to work. Please note that most of the tubes with glue have long enough spouts. Thus, when you squeeze the glue, you can not calculate the force of pressing and get it with excess. To avoid this, take any of the caps and squeeze a drop of glue onto it. Next, use a toothpick and apply glue directly to the junction of a certain part of the petal. So, you can make a neat element;
  • Needle and thread. Select the thread in the tone with the main material;
  • Decorative materials. Here, choose any elements that will help you decorate your Kanzas with your own hands.

In the course of the work, repeating the teaching lessons andMaster class, you are already independently for yourself, you can determine what materials and tools you will most conveniently perform certain manipulations.
Before proceeding directly tothe process itself, study the methodology of work from experienced craftswomen, which are presented in the kanzashi video. This will help you get a general idea of how different crafts and decor are created. The kanzashi technique itself is based on the production of two main types of petals: sharp and round from satin ribbons. A little lower, we will consider step-by-step lessons with photos, on the basis of which you will understand the whole process and the scope of work.

Based on the lessons of creating a round orsharp petal, craftswomen, using their own imagination or the experience of other needlewomen, create original elements for their crafts with their own hands. As an example, we can cite a spiral petal. In itself, this element is one of the varieties of a pointed petal.
The main process of work usually begins withsquare blanks from satin ribbons. After cutting the required number of parts, be sure to singe the cut edges with a lighter or candle. This will prevent the ribbon from crumbling as you go. You can also use a soldering iron for these purposes.
When you start learning lessons, don't take oncompositions and decor that contain a large number of petals. Try to make kanzashi with your own hands from a small number of elements in the form of small flowers, consisting of no more than five petals of each type.
In addition to satin ribbons, during the work you canselect and use other fabrics. For example, crepe satin. Its fairly wide range of colors will help you make more than one original product. Learn that such material has a soft structure, so it is best to make rounded petals from it. This property of crepe satin is not very convenient for making pointed petals. In addition, it can turn black during the melting process. Pay attention to this and try not to use light shades of this material.
Also, when studying kanzashi lessons, you may notice,that craftswomen sometimes work with organza. Be careful, this material crumbles a lot and often deforms. That is why satin ribbons are most often used to create kanzashi. They can be easily singed without deforming. The main difficulties you may encounter are when choosing the right color.

Basic types of petals

The next step-by-step instruction and master-class withPhoto, will demonstrate the schemes of step-by-step creation of the basic elements used to create the Kazan. Both beginners and experienced masters will benefit from such lessons.
Petals of the circle shape Each master class (MK)Begins with the same work on the folding of square segments in a certain way. Their length is usually equal to five centimeters. As it is correct to do, consider in the photo.

So, the first master class. The instruction is as follows: you need to fold the petal in half. Thus, you will get an element as in the photo:

The next step is to cut the corner and fold it. You need to cut it in a certain place and fold each side separately. As a result, you should get the following petal:

Another master class will suggest another waycreating this type of petals. After the element is folded and its corner is cut and soldered, you need to cut the sides and solder them together. It will be easier for you to determine how this process goes from the photo:

After this, using glue, the soldered sides are fixed closer to the center. As a result, we have such a petal:

And the last master class (MK). We repeat all the initial actions sequentially. Next, you need to bend the coal back, fold the petal in half (the folded edges should be inside).

All that remains is to cut off the corner and solder it (if desired, you can secure it with threads).

Try all three methods and find the most convenient one for you. The following lessons will show you the process of creating a sharp petal.
Petal with a sharp shape
This petal is also called narrow. It can be made both voluminous and flat. Such a detail is used to make decor for a hairpin, a headband and other accessories and crafts.
This master class demonstrates one petal, composed of two types. In the middle we see a high and voluminous detail, and along the outer edge – a narrow and flat one.
Let's start the lessons. At first, you also need to cut a certain number of squares. Then, we will fold them in a certain way.
So, we make ten square blanks from satin ribbons. For the work, take a ribbon five cm wide. All prepared parts are melted.
Further, it will be easier for you to navigate according tothe presented diagram. The five by five cm segment must be folded, aligning the opposite sides (angles "B" and "D"). In this way we obtain a triangular figure.

The bending point (A C) needs to be bent a little. Here we also connect the edges along the lines "AB" and "CD". Now, using a candle or a lighter, singe the edges.
In the next step, turn the corners “B” and “D” towards you and bend, aligning them at the marks “A” and “C”.

Our triangle is turned diagonally and folded again. Thus, we have gathered all the ends in one place.

The resulting part is fixed with a lighter flame and glued in the area indicated according to the diagram:

The master class is coming to an end. At the final stage, this element is fired along the marked line on the diagram.

Sometimes it is used in this form to create flowers consisting of many layers. Also, such a blank can be cut according to the following scheme and get a more elegant petal:

Next, carefully singe the cut edges and, if necessary, fix them in the area (A B C D).

In addition to the diagram, study the photo master class, where the described process is shown step by step. A wonderful petal is obtained from a decorative ribbon with an interesting pattern.

Another variation of the narrow petal is folded as follows: the initial stages are repeated according to the above-described scheme, after which one of the indicated ends is bent inward.

The following video will demonstrate in practice the creation of the basic kanzashi petals. Thus, it will be easier for you to understand and disassemble the entire technology of the work being carried out.

Master class on the creation of a flower in Kansas technique

To repeat this master class, prepare:

  • Ribbons of suitable colors (five cm);
  • tweezers;
  • scissors;
  • A lighter (candle);
  • glue.

The tape is cut into square pieces in cm. In total, we consistently cut four, eight and twenty eight blanks starting from the lighter ones and ending with the dark ones, respectively.

After this, you need to make a petal. The arrows in the photo indicate in which directions the corners should be made. The edges are melted with a lighter.

The corner is sealed next. First, it needs to be folded in half in height, the center marked and sealed.

According to this scheme, we make the required number of such elements and proceed to assembling the flower.

The red mark on the photo shows in whicharea, glue is applied. Having assembled the middle, we proceed step by step to fixing each individual petal. Glue is applied to their base. The arrows indicate the area where they are fixed.

The back side looks like this:

Next, you can make a base for the flower yourself, attach a special detail to it in the form of a clasp and use it as decoration.

We have covered the basic pointswhich the kanzashi technique is built. If you liked it, look through other training lessons, new products that are on our site, improve and start making your own original crafts from satin ribbons.
