If a needlewoman has a dog, evennecessarily a dog, but any domestic animal, then be sure that the size of her pet's wardrobe will compete with the wardrobe of any fashionista. In our climate, where frosts, winds and drafts are not uncommon, clothing for animals is not at all a whim of the owners, but a real necessity. This is especially true for cats and dogs of a slender build, as well as a modest hair coat. Knitting for animals was not invented in our days, modern needlewomen are only improving clothing models and adapting them to newly emerging breeds of cats and dogs. Give warmth to your pet and knit a jumpsuit for him with knitting needles.

Choosing the yarn

If your pet is hairless, the yarn for clothing should not only keep them warm or protect them from sunburn, but also not irritate their delicate skin. Ideally suited:

  • cotton. From this natural fiber it is possible to tie a thin blanket that protects from sunlight or a coveralls for early autumn;
  • Wool + acrylic fiber. This combination of fibers makes the clothes very warm and soft. Ideal for warm winter sweaters and overalls;
  • mohair. This is yarn made of Angora goat wool. Very soft, warm and fluffy;
  • Fantasy yarn. It includes "plush", "grass", ribbon yarn, yarn with pompons, bouclé, with paillettes. It is suitable for dressing as well as for creating a full bright and original costume. The main thing is that the yarn is not prickly and stiff.

How to take measurements

Knitting for dogs needs to start with taking measurementsWith the pet. In order to make it easier to take measurements, put the dog's collar on the dog, so that it does not fit tightly around the neck. On it you can measure the neck circumference, and from it measure the length of the back to the beginning of the tail.

Even for work, you will need a measurement of chest circumference. It is measured at the widest point. The waist circumference is the narrowest place on the body. You can also measure the length and girth of the paws, for a tight fit of the product's pants.

We knit a mohair jumpsuit

For work, take a soft, fluffy and veryWarm yarn - mohair. To make the product dense and not blown, take thin knitting needles, no more than number 2, but if you want a lightweight loose knitted suit, you can work with knitting needles # 4 or # 5. Such a light outfit can be tied up for autumn, and also if your dog has a dense thick coat.
I would like to add that knitting for animals inFirst of all, it has a practical function, and if you are the owner of a Siberian Husky, then there is no need to dress her in warm knitted sweaters, except perhaps for a stylish family photo shoot.
You will also need pins, a hook, a lace and a fastener for the jumpsuit (buttons, snaps or Velcro).

There are no diagrams for this product, just follow theDescription. First we knit the sample and calculate the number of loops that we will type. Let's start knitting the overalls with knitting needles with a rubber band 1x1, the height of the collar choose an arbitrary one. It can be, as a small rack, and a high collar with a lapel.
Having collected the required number of rows for the neck, we begin adding loops.

In the first row we make increases every5-6 loops, depending on how many you have already cast on. We make an increase with a regular yarn over, into the holes that have formed (make sure that their number is even), a lace will be inserted later.

Knit the next row with a rib pattern.
In the third row we make increases in the following way: first we yarn over, and then we pull out the yarn over from the previous row. The next row is according to the pattern.

When the canvas is a little wider, you need to tie the wedges. They make the overalls fit more comfortable for the dog.
We divide the canvas into three parts and distribute it on the borders of the pin.

We knit to the second pin, then we unfold the canvas and we will tie a row to the first pin, again turn and to the end. Then follow the picture.
We repeat the previously described steps two more times to form two wedges.

This is what should happen.

Now we start working on the so-called armholes for the legs. For the middle part we leave a few loops, and we divide the sides in half. So, as in the photo.

Each part is knitted separately by the facial surface. In order to know what the length of our armholes, you need to measure the "length of the back" by three, we will get the size we need. But, in order not to hinder the movements of a moving pet, you can tie up about 1 cm.
Now you need to reconnect all three parts into one single canvas.

We knit the facial surface until the product closes the chest and part of the abdomen. At this point, we again divide the canvas into three equal sections, and the one that is closed in the center.
We work on the sides until they begin to cover the hips. It's better to do a fitting here.
Close the loops of the side sides. Do not cut off the remaining threads yet, we will need them later. From them, using a hook, you need to knit loops that fix the jumpsuit on the back legs.

The final stage of work on the main partWill be tying all open edges of the product, also with the help of a hook, but if you do not work by hook, then you can tie it with knitting needles. So the product will become a little freer and we will have a strap for fastening the fastener.
We still have sleeves that we need to sew intoarmholes. To do this, you need to measure the circumference of the paws, or be guided by the slots that we left. Do not make the sleeves too wide and long, otherwise they will drag on the floor, get dirty, and are unlikely to keep you warm.

Knitting for dogs has some features, andIs different from working with clothes for people. Not everything that is suitable for your clothes will suit your pet. Landing of things should not be too dense, but it's also fashionable for us to "oversize", for animals it will be superfluous. The dog can be tangled in wide sleeves and trousers, and large voluminous hoods can distract her from the walk.
Now let's move on to the fittings. Insert decorative lace and stoppers into the base of the neckline.

And we sew the buckle. In this case, these are buttons, but you can sew buttons or Velcro fasteners.

A nice and warm jumpsuit is ready!

Knitting for animals is not difficult, but very exciting and enjoyable. Pamper your pets with warm, warm clothes!
