A lesson on sewing an original shopping bag made of fabric in a pattern, detailed instructions and step-by-step photos

I offer you a simple master class onsewing a shopping bag. Let me clarify that this shopping bag with solid handles can also be made double-sided. I really like this model of a shopping bag, it has wide and strong handles, and it is also quite roomy. This bag is our frequent companion on shopping trips. Alternatively, to sew such a bag, you can use fabric of different contrasting colors - two, three colors. Use the fabric that you have, from cuts, or scraps of fabric. Dimensions of the bag: height - 35 cm + 1 cm for allowances, width - 33 cm + 1 cm for allowances. Detail of the handles: height 22 cm, width 33 cm. Since, in this master class, a fairly dense canvas fabric was used, I did not make it double-sided.

Materials and tools

To sew this bag we will need:

  • Half a meter of cotton cloth for the bottom of the bag and a fabric for pens;
  • Half a meter of fabric for lining (at your discretion);
  • Suitable for color yarn;
  • Sewing accessories;
  • Pattern the top of the bag with handles to draw yourself.

Pattern

We draw a pattern for the upper part of the bag.Measure the width of the bag and add 1 cm for seam allowances. Draw a horizontal line equal to ½ the width + seam allowances. This is the base line. Draw a vertical line 10 cm to the left and a vertical line to the right 8 cm from the base line. Measure 28 cm up from the base line and make a mark. Draw an 8 cm horizontal line through this mark. Draw curved lines connecting the lines at the top, right and left. Mark the fold line.

Stages of work

Shopping bag with solid handles:Cut out 2 pieces using the pattern from the fabric for the front side and 2 pieces from the fabric for the lining. Place 1 piece for the front side and 1 piece for the back side face-to-face and stitch along the fold lines with a 0.5 cm seam allowance. Make cuts along the fold lines. Repeat the same steps for the other two pieces. Turn the pieces right side out and iron.Step-by-step photos to the lesson on sewing a shopping bag.
