Since the birch bark quickly ignites and burns well, before using it as a plafond, it is better to treat it with some water-based sealant. In addition, the sealant will prevent drying of the bark and the appearance of cracks on it. 
To fix the birch bark over a bulb it is possible withusing a line or rope. To keep the lampshade in shape, the edges of the birch bark can be sewn neatly with wide stitches, tied with a string or glued together. The latter option is not suitable if the lamp will often be used at night, since the adhesive will lose its properties from constant heating.
