Master class on making a gift bottle with your own hands in the technique of decoupage, suitable for beginners

Today we are decorating a fully functionalgift bottle. It is convenient to use it on the go (for hunting or fishing trips) for strong drinks or as a home decoration. Two main motifs are a picture of a sea battle and an old map. We will connect the motifs with a background color and a craquelure mesh. The decor is direct decoupage on glass and aging. The work is not difficult, even a beginner can handle it. Materials that will be used in the decoration process:

  • a thick-glass billet with a lid;
  • sandpaper "zero";
  • water-based materials: paints and varnish;
  • two-component craquelure composition (in this work – the “Idea” composition from the “Maimeri” company);
  • grout - this can be artisticbitumen, specialized grouting pigment, oil paint, pastel, or even eye shadow (in this case, Van Pure's Burnt Umber oil paint);
  • decoupage card or printout with the desired motive;
  • a glass primer or a universal spray paint;
  • brushes or tompions (in extreme cases – a piece of an artistic sponge or even a finger);
  • sisal in twine;
  • thermo-gun;
  • jewelry pendant - steering wheel for decoration.

We will decorate this bottle of interesting shape: on one side it is slightly convex, on the other – concave. Volume – 250 ml.Master class on making a gift bottle with their own hands in the technique of decoupage, suitable for beginners. Photo №1Before starting work, you need to wash it thoroughlybottle inside and out. Dry. And only then proceed to the next step - cover the surface with white paint. Now let's work with the motif. If you have a printout to work with, it must first be thinned (you can use office tape, sandpaper, or your fingers and water). To do this, process the back side with sandpaper to the desired thickness or stick tape in strips, then carefully remove it with a layer of paper. This leaves a thin layer of paper with a pattern. Or you can thoroughly wet the back side of the pattern and very gently and carefully roll the top layer of paper with your fingers. But there are some tricks here: the pattern must be printed with pigment ink on thick photo paper and the motif must be fixed with an aerosol varnish (in the worst case - hairspray) before water procedures. When the surface is prepared, it will stick to the glass more easily, and the joints will be less noticeable.Master class on making a gift bottle with their own hands in the technique of decoupage, suitable for beginners. Picture №3You can glue the motif using decoupage glue.("Mod Podge", for example), PVA or acrylic varnish. The latter, by the way, will also provide a protective film. Smooth it out, remove air and excess moisture with a napkin.Master class on making a gift bottle with their own hands in the technique of decoupage, suitable for beginners. Here you can use either a flat or a round brush. Select the desired tone and cover the white parts, then cover with three or four layers of acrylic varnish. First, level the background with darker tones, then form waves and a light tone - foam. At this stage, you can also apply a craquelure mesh. To do this, apply a couple of craquelure varnishes in turn. It is important to strictly follow the manufacturer's recommendations to get beautiful cracks. You can rub with pigment, oil paints or bitumen (in this case - burnt umber, oil). If the second step needs to be washed off, it is recommended to cover the cracks with shellac varnish (the first step). Let it dry well.Master class on making a gift bottle with their own hands in the technique of decoupage, suitable for beginners.
