A master class with photos will teach you how to make a homemade toy – DIY dolls
I really like knitting toys. They have something that store-bought toys don’t have – warmth and coziness, and the craftswoman’s love for her creations. My little daughter shares my emotions. And in the course of our work, we use more than just a ball of yarn, a crochet hook, and knitting needles. To give the toys the desired shape, we often use plastic food containers. For example, many craftswomen crochet Kinder Surprise toy containers to make various animals. To crochet a doll, I use plastic bottles from drinking yogurt. Their shape is very reminiscent of female forms. If you look closely at the containers used, you can immediately notice “breasts,” “hips,” and “waist” on them. Thus, for work we will need:
- plastic bottle of drinking yogurt,
- yarn of different colors (I used yellow for tying the bottle, pink for the dress, red for the coat and beret, and white for the doll's face),
- hook number 1.5,
- spokes number 3,
- needle for embroidery,
- thread for embroidery.
If desired, each craftswoman can addyour imagination in the knitting process and make eyes from beads, use satin ribbons for hair, etc. Progress First of all, we tie the bottle exactly according to its shape from the bottom to the neck. It is better to tie it with single crochets. But if the yarn is thick enough, you can tie it with double crochets. The main thing is that the bottle itself does not show through the threads. My body is crocheted in yellow, but you can make it pink or white - it all depends on the desire of the craftswoman.Next, I took white yarn and continued knitting.single crochet stitches, and in the first row we knit two loops from each loop, in the second row - we knit two from every second loop, in the third - from every third. Now we knit a couple of rows without changes (here the length of the doll's face depends on the number of rows - the more rows without changes are knitted, the more elongated the face will be), and then everything is the other way around. That is, first we close every third loop, in the next row - every second and so on, until there are 2-3 loops left, which we tighten. Thus, the head and body are ready.Next we knit the arms. I used white yarn. The hands are knitted very simply – I cast on 8 loops, closed them in a circle and knitted without increases or decreases until the length I needed. They can also be knitted with single crochets, or, as I did, with a yarn over. When the required length was reached, I connected the two halves of the circle (round wrist) with four single crochets. Now we knit the “lazy” fingers (I call them this way because I am very lazy to knit complex elements, and such fingers take a couple of seconds in knitting) – cast on 3-4 chain stitches and close them in the second column of the previous row. Again cast on 4-5 chain stitches and close them in the third column of the previous row, again 3-4 chain stitches and a single crochet in the last loop of the previous row. Thus, we knit 3 fingers. The second handle is knitted in the same way, then both arms are sewn onto the body. I did not knit the legs for this doll, she just stands on the bottom of the bottle. Now we proceed to the most interesting part - knitting clothes for our doll. For the dress, I took the remains of pink thin cotton yarn - closed 15 loops in a circle, knitted a round yoke and then, leaving armholes for the arms, knitted an even fabric exactly the length of the doll. You can use any pattern, the main thing is that the craftswoman likes it.The beret is also crocheted - 3-4 loopsare closed in a circle, and then a round fabric is knitted to the desired width of the beret. Then we make decreases until the hat perfectly “fits” on the doll’s head. The coat is knitted with raglan from the top downbottles, that is, according to the doll's height. Small accessories are a belt for the coat, crocheted with double crochets, and a purple handbag, crocheted with single crochets. All that remains is to embroider the eyes, nose, mouth and make the hair. The hair can be crocheted or glued. If desired, you can come up with beads, bracelets, and other types of clothing for the doll. But I liked this particular option. Everything is very simple and elegant.
