Rug with your hands from old leather belts
Nothing lasts forever, even a belt or a strapgenuine leather after prolonged active use can wear out, tear or just become very boring. What can we say about belts made of artificial leather, whose lifespan can be very short. But - and now a banal, but such a true phrase will sound - do not rush to throw away a worn belt! Find a dozen more belts from friends, acquaintances or at a flea market and make an unusual rug with your own hands, which will organically fit into the interior in the style of retro, vintage, steampunk and even modern! It is very easy to make a rug with your own hands from belts. There are several options, but the main ones are two, depending on the method of connecting the belts together. For the first option, you will need 10-12 natural or artificial leather belts, an awl or a leather punch, twine or rope.Make the belts the same length in advance.by cutting off the buckle. Make holes along the edges of the belts at a distance of about 2-3 cm from each other and 0.5 cm from the edge. Sew them together using thin hemp rope. The order of pulling the rope is arbitrary, you can sew along the belts, across, crosswise between the holes. Metal staples instead of rope will also look very stylish. The second option involves gluing the belts to the base. In this way, you can lay out different patterns, make a "checkerboard", "herringbone", "zigzag", etc.The operating procedure is similar to the previous version.Important note: the belts should not be wrinkled! Otherwise, the rug made by hand will turn out wavy. Prepare the belts, cut off the buckles. In order to lay out the patterns, the belts must be cut into several parts. "Measure seven times, cut once!" - think in advance how the rug will look, estimate what size the individual leather elements should be. Mark the cutting lines on the belts with chalk, and only then take the scissors in your hands. You can use thick fabric or rubber as a base. Cut a rectangle of the desired size from the fabric. Lay it out on the belts in the chosen order. It would be a good idea to degrease the back of the belt beforehand. Then apply superglue suitable for gluing leather and fabric, press it to the base and immediately wipe off the excess glue with a rag. The master class with photos is below:Now imagine that you can do it this waycompletely cover the entire floor in the room! I don’t know how many straps were needed and how long it took to assemble them, but it looks impressive and very stylish! The straps were glued to plywood panels, and then the decorated panels were laid on the floor. This type of flooring can be combined with parquet boards or laminate.Inspired the idea: http://gipermarketpola.com/laminat.html
