Technique for making straws for weaving
For making items from newspapersSeveral types of blanks are used: tubes and paper vines. Tubes are obtained by winding newspaper on a skewer, and vines are the same tubes, but flattened. Beginners will find it easiest to cope with paper vines, weaving from tubes is a more difficult task.To make paper tubes yourself,Cut a sheet of newspaper into strips about 7-9 cm wide. Now place the knitting needle on the corner of the paper strip. The course of your work will depend on the desired rigidity of the finished tubes: the smaller the angle of the knitting needle, the more rigid the tube will be. The best option is to twist the tube at an angle of 45-60°.Wind a strip of newspaper onto a skewer (spoke).Wind to the middle, remove the skewer and finish making the tube without it. At the end, it remains to fix the newspaper with glue so that the tube does not unwind. Also consider that the top and bottom of the twigs should be of different thicknesses. Weaving a basket from newspaper tubes To make a basket from newspaper twigs, you will need a cardboard box, which will be used as a base. The number of paper twigs used in the work, as well as paints, varnish and all sorts of decorative elements that will make the basket beautiful and original will depend on its size. First, you need to prepare the box by cutting off the top lids. Now the future basket needs to be shaped by constructing a frame. On the bottom of the box, use a pencil to mark the places where the main tubes will be located. If you plan to make a denser product, place the base twigs as close to each other as possible. Glue them along the markings, keeping in mind that you also need to glue a twig at the corners. Turn the box over and secure the tubes with a rubber band or cord. To create the first row, use the outermosttube of the stand, it is necessary to braid the next tube. In order to go around all the walls of one tube will not be enough. Therefore, when it ends, simply build up the next one, inserting it inside the previous one and fixing it with glue. The stand needs to be braided according to the following scheme: braid one in front, the other - in the back, etc. In this way, you need to make the entire box.To make your product moreoriginal, you can weave a ribbon between the tubes. But do not weave it right away, because you will still need to paint the finished basket. Just step back a place corresponding to the thickness of the ribbon and weave further. When your weaving reaches the edge of the box,you need to fix the tube and hide its edge inside with tweezers. You should get a box with tubes sticking up that need to be hidden. To do this, put each of them behind the third, you can see an example in the photo. The box is ready, all that's left is to paint it with acrylic paints and decorate it with fabric and ribbons. Now the basket looks nice and neat, it will decorate your home and will store all the little things.Layered weaving in the production of basketsnewspaper tubes The advantage of layered basket weaving is that the item acquires an incredibly beautiful and unusual texture. With all this, such weaving turns out to be quite even, in turn, you do not have to use a form for the base. To get a basket of not very large size, you will need 32 tubes. Glue two with wide ends to each other. As a result, you will get 16 long paper tubes. Next, you need to divide them into 4 equal handfuls of 4 twigs and intertwine them together in a checkerboard pattern. Look at the example shown in the photo. Next, take another tube, fold it in half and start weaving the bottom using the "rope" technique: Braid the twigs (two at a time) with an intersecting tube.Prepare a pot, bucket or in advancesomething similar (the vessel will be used as a form). And when the bottom of the weaving matches the size of the bottom of the existing form, place it on the weaving, and begin to form the sides of the future basket, inserting the twigs one by one (as if twisting them together) and lifting them up. Now we move on to weaving the walls. The very first 3-4 rows should be weaved using the "rope" technique, the subsequent rows - using the "herringbone" technique. When the walls of the basket are finished weaving, tuck the working rods inside and trim. To get a nice border, you don't need to trim the working rods, glue a few tubes to the base rods. This procedure can be done in two ways: glue another rod at the back using a glue gun, or slightly loosen the weaving of each base rod from the inside and insert the rods deep. Keep in mind that if you are working on a basket that hasn't been painted yet, insert the rods at an angle in the direction of the future weaving. If the product is painted, you don't need to do this. After this, move on to working on the edging.Take two working rods, they need to be brought over the main right tube. Then bring these two rods behind the next main rod, eventually bring them out. Take the next pair, which is located to the left of the weaving. Your task is to perform the same actions with all the working rods, going around the circle. Finally, bring the tubes back and glue them to the base rods from the inside. Or you can make several rows of “string”, hide the ends inside, and cut off the excess. As for the manufacture of handles, everything is heresimple. Decide for yourself how many paper rods to take to make the handle: the more there are, the stronger the handle will be. Thread one end a couple of rows down through the main weave, and do the same with the other end of the handle at a short distance. Tie the long ends to the handle with threads. Now take another tube, flatten it a little and wrap it around the handle, fixing it with glue. Leave the basket until the glue dries completely. Now the basket is ready, all that remains is to apply paint.First, paint the product a darker color, leave it to dry. After that, take a small sponge, dip it in white paint, squeeze it out and go over the weaving. Finally, dilute the PVA glue with a small amount of water and prime the product. Cover with acrylic varnish and the decorative basket is ready. Basket in a chessboard technique First, you need to form the bottom and prepare the shape according to which the weaving will be carried out. To do this, prepare two cardboards that will correspond to the dimensions of the bottom of the base box. On one of them, draw the places where the tubes will be glued. The distance between them should be about 2 cm. Next, thoroughly coat the cardboard with markings with glue, place paper rods according to the marks. In addition to those that were marked, additionally glue two rods at the corners of the box. When all the rods are in place, glue the second cardboard on top. For a secure hold, secure the two cardboard bottoms with clothespins and leave until completely dry.Once the bottom of the basket is ready,Place the box-form inside and start to shape the bottom of the product. To do this, take the outermost rod, place it over the second one (as if twisting it together) and lift it up, attaching it with a clothespin to the top of the box - this way the vertical tubes will not shift during work. Do the same with the rest of the rods - this is how you will be able to form the base of the future box. The illustrations below show everything clearly. Next, move on to making the walls of the product. For greater strength, weave the bottom part with an ordinary braid.Next, according to the picture, startWeave the windows in a checkerboard pattern. After completing the checkerboard pattern, continue braiding the braid to the height you need. Finish the work by hiding all the ends of the newspaper tubes. Cut the vertical ribs at a distance of 6 cm, bend them and hide them inside the weaving. Cover the basket with PVA glue, then paint it with stain or paint. Finally, apply varnish to the product. Below you can see the final result.Weaving from newspaper tubes:shoe-shaped basket Such an original shoe can become another creative success in your collection of works. In addition, such a product can easily be used as a basket, an original flowerpot or a souvenir. To begin, cut out two sole parts from thick cardboard, between which you need to glue the tubes. And make a lift by weaving 4 cm in height using the "rope" technique. After that, bend the front posts (in this example, 9 pieces were bent). Weave them in the same technique with two turns, then continue weaving in a circle. After completing several rows, separate againthe front posts, but adding one more on each side. Braid them several times again. After that, go through all the posts of the base in a circle four times. Then separate the posts in the center and weaveboot shaft, turning the stands outward. While working on the product, adjust its appearance yourself as you go, turning the stands inward or outward. As a result, the working tubes need to be hidden inside the rows of weaving. Lightly trim the main stands, bend them and hide them between the rows.Paint the shoe with the paint of your choice (preferably(choose a darker color), then soak the sponge in light paint, squeeze it out and go over the surface of the shoe. Let the product dry and thread a decorative cord inside. Now the basket is completely ready. A small basket made of newspapers First, roll up the required number of newspaper tubes. And so that you do not have to glue the tubes too often during the manufacturing process, glue several tubes at once into one long one. When making ordinary paper rods, one end is always wider than the other. Spread glue on the narrower end and put the other tube on it with the wide end. Let the long tubes dry thoroughly and get to work. First, you need to cut out two circles of the same size from cardboard. Each cardboard circle needs to be thoroughly coated on one side, wait a minute and lay out the tubes (shorter ones) in the shape of a sun on one of them. They will be the stands of the basket. You should get a kind of sun, like in the photo.Next, cover it with another cardboard circle and press it down with a heavy object (books, etc.). Leave the bottom with the racks to dry in this way, after 40 minutes you can start weaving the basket itself.Initially, you need to choose a form by whichand the basket will be woven so that the walls do not move to the side. To do this, select a container whose bottom will match the bottom of the basket. If you cannot find one, make the base yourself using cardboard and tape, as shown in the photo. When starting to weave the walls, first bend one rod and fix it to the stand with glue.Carry out weaving in the most ordinary waymethod, passing the paper tube alternately under and above the stand. Continue weaving until the basket reaches the height you need. Pass the working tube inside and fix it between the rows. If the ends of the stands are too long, cut off the excess, bend them and fix them inside with glue. As a result, you should get a basket like the one in the photo. As you can see, it is not finished yet, it needs to be painted. Apply the first coat of stain, let it dry, and then apply the second coat.A handle can be made upon request. To do this, take several paper tubes, wrap them with another paper tube and glue them to the inside of the basket. Cover the handle with stain and let the product dry. You can cover the basket with acrylic varnish on top. It has no smell, so you can safely store the product inside any room.
