A pattern will help you cut the fabric correctly. It is easy to draw using a minimum number of parameters - the length and width of the product, the length of the shoulder, the length and width of the sleeve. Since Santa Claus's outfit should look a little baggy, you should not try to cut the fur coat to fit your figure. A simple cut will allow you to create a universal size that will suit both a plump man and a slender girl. After all, guests often dress up in this costume. So that the New Year goes off joyfully and fabulously.Lay out the fabric and mark all the details on it.This will be the back, it has a trapezoid shape. The shoulder size is about 60 cm, and at the bottom the detail expands to 80 cm. The length of the product should be according to your height, but keep in mind that this suit is sewn almost to the floor. If you find such New Year's fabric, the width of its canvas is 180 cm, this is the maximum length of the product. If your height is much shorter, then the upper part of the remains of the fabric after cutting the front and back can be used to create sleeves. The length of the sleeve is at your discretion, that is, according to your measurements. But keep in mind that the floors of the sleeves of Santa Claus are long and half cover the mittens, because this is a winter suit like a warm old sheepskin coat. The width of the sleeve should not be the girth of the arm, but about 35-40 cm, taking into account an additional centimeter for seams. The front part consists of two halves. You can use a modified back pattern: it will need to be cut in half, when transferring to the fabric, draw a larger size of the lower part, since the product should have a smell, which will allow people of different sizes to wear the suit. You also need to change the neckline, drawing it along an oblique line, the cut is made like a triangle. When cutting the fabric, be sure to add 1 cm to the seams, otherwise the cut may become narrow in the shoulder or armpit area.
Costume tailoring
The finished parts are sewn together in stages. If the fabric is "crumbling", the inner seams - shoulder, side and inside the sleeve - can be overcast by hand (if there is no special equipment) or with an overlock. The hem, bottom of the sleeves and the front should be folded and stitched. Each seam should be approximately 1 cm from the edge and it is better to use a double stitch, since the suit is often worn over some clothes and should be practical. The next step is to trim the hem, sleeve cuffs and front panels with faux fur.The fur is cut into long strips andsewn to the suit. You can simply baste it with frequent stitches. Such seams go along the inner edge of the trim and closer to the outer part. Remember that during games, New Year's dances, the suit can easily be caught, so try to sew the fur on well, necessarily in two threads.A wider trim is sewn on at the bottom, as it is necessary to highlight, "snow" the hem of the suit. Both trims should fit very tightly to each other, practically merging into a single piece. To prevent the outfit from opening, you can sewan internal belt, a button or Velcro. On top, Santa Claus's outfit should be complemented with a sash, which can be made from satin ribbon or cut out of the remaining fabric. It is not difficult to make at all - it is a double stitched belt. Sequins or beads will help to give the costume additional elegance, which should be used to decorate the cuffs of the sleeves, hem, neck or sash. The most reliable seam for sequins is continuous, it can be done with threads of a contrasting color. You can find silver braid and do the decoration with its help. The main thing here is to use silver or white colors, which will imitate snow, frost, that is, personify the image of Santa Claus. It is a little more difficult to sew a Santa Claus hat.First, you need to measure the circumference of your head. Next, you should cut out 6 wedges for the hat, 15 cm long and 1/6 of the head circumference wide, not forgetting about seam allowances. Then the pieces are sewn together, and white fur is sewn along the bottom edge. On the front of the hat, you can make a triangular cutout in the trim, in my opinion - it looks nicer this way, but you can also leave the trim straight. The tip of the hat is picked up slightly downwards, and the headdress itself should be decorated with stars or snowflakes, if there are no sewn-on snow elements on the fabric. The inside of the hat is a coverred. If you plan to walk in this costume at the city Christmas tree, it is better to insulate the headdress and insert a lining made of synthetic padding. The cover and the outer layer of the hat are grabbed along the bottom edge. The seam on the cover should be internal, which will ensure comfort when wearing a New Year's hat. What can you add to Santa Claus's New Year's costume? For greater authenticity, the Santa Claus costume can be supplemented with various accessories. For example, the necessary element - felt boots - can be decorated with snowflake appliques and fur. Children will certainly be pleased with a voluminous gift bag. It is advisable to sew it from the same fabric as the costume, or from a material of the same color, but a different shade. You can decorate the gift bag with white fur, sequins, tinsel, foil stars, and tie it with a satin ribbon. To create volume, the bag can be stuffed with wrapping paper or padding polyester. An important accessory of Santa Claus is a staff. If you can find a beautiful, slightly curved stick, you can decorate it minimally - with silver paint, for example. And if you take a long mop handle or a simple smooth stick for the staff, you can wrap it in foil and decorate it with tinsel. To imitate frost on the staff, apply glue to the surface and sprinkle with salt. To make Santa Claus mittens, draw a blank - outline the palm with the thumb pulled back. Then cut out 2 pairs of parts from red fabric, but keep in mind that the mittens should be wide, so add 3 cm on the sides. Sew the parts using an overlock or a dense overcast. Be sure to insert an elastic band into the upper part of the product so that the mittens do not slip off and get lost. You can decorate the mittens with fur along the edge and fabric snowflakes over the entire area of the palm. Santa Claus's image will be incomplete without a wig and a beard. These parts can be bought ready-made, then they will be more natural. If this is not possible - a wide beard can be made from fur or padding polyester and elastic bands.
