No New Year celebration is complete withoutdressed up as a Christmas tree. The tradition of decorating them goes back to the pre-Christian era. Ancient people brought to their homes the branches of an eternally green plant and decorated them like a magical act designed to propitiate the spirits and get them prosperity in the new year. In those days, apples, cookies or other edible articles were hung on the Christmas trees. Now the choice of Christmas-tree toys is many times greater, however, each needlewoman tries to decorate the fluffy green beauty with original hand-made articles. The most popular things for decorating a Christmas tree are balls of different sizes and colors. One of the techniques that makes them bright and beautiful New Year tree decorations is decoupage. Funny fact: in the modern world crafts in the technique of decoupage are expensive works of art, however, it was not always so. In its heyday (XVII century), furniture with applications served as an inexpensive analogue of products in the oriental style with inlays that cost fabulous money. In Europe, the 1600's in the fashion were elegant hand-made articles, in particular richly decorated furniture from Japan and China. It was not affordable for everyone, so the craftsmen found a way out. They cut out various applications with oriental patterns and pasted them on simple furniture. In order to make the difference between a cheap counterfeit and an expensive original less noticeable, the masters covered furniture with many layers of varnish. The cost of things turned out to be several times less, and such crafts were in demand. In most cases, the use of decoupage techniques now instead of multi-colored paper use napkins. The words "decoupage" and "napkin technique" have become synonymous, because modern production creates beautiful and bright napkins with prints of a variety of subjects. Some of them, for example, New Year's are perfect for decoupling Christmas balls. You can choose a specific picture with New Year's images such as an ornate Christmas tree, Santa Claus and snowflakes, or you can just pick up festive Christmas and New Year's colors - white and red or create an original black and white ball. Such monochrome themes for decoupage we suggest in this article. New Year's ball in the technique of decoupage Option 1 It will take:
- Christmas ball.
- Liquid for degreasing (alcohol or acetone).
- White paint (acrylic).
- Glue for glass surfaces.
- Napkin or card for decoupage (white black or white red).
- Glossy acrylic lacquer.
- Decorative cord (it will make an excellent loop for hanging the ball on the Christmas tree).
- Elements of decor (sequins, crystals, etc.).
Before starting to decorate the ball, itsit is necessary to prepare. To do this, clean the surface of the paint (if it is) and rub it with alcohol or acetone to degrease. Then cover the ball with white paint. If you want to make a beautiful fastening in the form of a decorative cord or ribbon, then the fastening must be pulled out. While it dries, you can do paper work. As a material for the application, you can use a two-color napkin or make a printout on thin paper. It is necessary to measure the circumference of the selected ball and cut the paper blank along the length slightly larger than the figure obtained. Now carefully trimmed with scissors triangular fragments from two opposite sides of the sheet, as shown in the photo. Now apply glue a thin strip on the equator of the ball. Accurately glue the paper blank. The simplest thing left is to stick it oneach triangular petal so that their corners converge at the center of the ball. If you use a string instead of a fastener, then it must be glued to the ball before this stage. Cover the craft with a transparent glossy varnish, we wait for complete drying and the New Year ball is ready. Option 2 It will take:
- Polystyrene balls.
- A cloth with a white red print (abstract symmetrical pattern).

Such crafts can do even for kids. Billets of balls do not need to be cleaned or degreased. Simply cut the fabric into pieces, cover the ball with glue and attach the blanks. When everything is dry, cover the ball with one more layer of glue. We are waiting for drying and apply a layer of varnish. Now we start painting the beads. We use for this bright new-year-Christmas colors - red and white. In our dried up ball make a small hole, where we glue the string. On it it is preliminary necessary to string beads. We are waiting for the glue to dry completely and decorate the Christmas tree with bright and beautiful balls. Advice! The hole in the ball can be made before the stage of gluing the pieces of tissue with a thin knitting needle. If you do not have suitable fabrics on hand, then you can take wrapping paper or napkins.
