How to make a beautiful New Year's gift - a decorative cutting board with New Year's motifs? A detailed description of the technique, a list of materials and step-by-step recommendations and photos
Everyone's favorite and much-anticipated holiday is approaching.New Year! And the most exciting time is ahead, time to think about gifts! The best gift is a gift made with love by hand. I would like to present you with one of the options for a New Year's gift in the form of a kitchen board. It can be used as a beautiful decorative panel or for its intended purpose for working in the kitchen. Cooking on such a board will be much more pleasant, and dishes prepared with love will be very tasty! So, let's get started. You will need: a wooden board, white acrylic primer (available at an art store), a napkin with a design you like, medium and fine-grain sandpaper, acrylic paints, a sponge for applying paint or a regular sponge for washing dishes, brushes, eco-friendly acrylic varnish (available at an art store), PVA glue (available at stationery stores). Choose a regular kitchen board you like. Sand the wood with medium-grain sandpaper. Take a sponge and coat it once with acrylic primer. Drying time depends on the manufacturer. Usually it is 1-2 hours. Sand the surface again with medium-grain sandpaper. Apply a second layer of white acrylic primer. Wait until it dries completely. While your workpiece is drying, choose a design you like. When the second layer of primer dries, you need to sand the surface. Then wipe with a damp cloth to remove excess dust. To glue the napkin, you need to dilute 1:1 PVA glue and water. Apply the napkin and carefully, starting from the middle, moving to the edges, glue the entire napkin. For the first time, do not take a large picture, let there be several but small ones. It will be easier for you to glue evenly, without folds and wrinkles. After you have glued the entire surface of the napkin to the board, the napkin has stretched a little and more remains on the sides than you left initially. Do not tear it off, wait until it dries completely. It is better to leave it overnight so that everything dries well. If it burns strongly, continue further, then take a hair dryer and dry at the lowest power. The distance from the product to the hair dryer should be twenty to thirty centimeters.
Setret! If you have wrinkles after the napkin dries, run your fingernail over it as if rubbing it into the board. After this action, the wrinkle will become less noticeable. Next, take acrylic paints and draw the details and the drawing comes to life before your eyes. Wait 1-2 hours for the paints to dry completely.
Cover with a layer of varnish. Wait for it to dry.Usually it takes 1-2 hours, depending on the paint manufacturer. Take a sponge and carefully go over the outline of the entire board with red paint. Wait for it to dry, about 30-40 minutes. Cover with a layer of varnish. Wait for it to dry.
Take a sponge with gold paint and go over the red outline of the entire workpiece. After the paint dries, cover it with another layer of varnish and wait for it to dry completely.
Along the edges of the board there should be beautiful golden stripes through which the red ones will be visible.
From above, just as we did above, we go through it againalong the outline of the entire workpiece with a sponge with gold paint so that the red color is less visible. Wait for it to dry. Cover with a layer of varnish. Wait for it to dry completely. Important! The varnish cannot be dried with a hairdryer, it must dry on its own, otherwise the structure of the varnish may be damaged.
After the product has been completely painted, it needs to be varnished 6 more times, after 3 layers it needs to be sanded with fine, almost smooth sandpaper. All layers should dry well.
Here is such a beautiful and festive board we have.turned out. It will be a wonderful gift, and since it is made by you, it will be even more pleasant, because you tried and put your strength and love into this work. The process is quite labor-intensive, but the result is worth such efforts. I wish you good luck in mastering decoupage.
