One of the most beautiful and at the same time lightOpenwork embroidery is considered one of the ways to decorate various tablecloths, napkins or curtains. Even the most ordinary white napkin can become a real work of art if you put in a little effort and use your own imagination.

What is the embroidery on the grid

If you create some kind of pattern on a special mesh, then this means that you are doing fillet embroidery. Many people buy a pre-prepared mesh for their work, but you can make it yourself:

  • In order to make the grid itself, you need to use needle loops. Usually on such a grid an excellent classic loin embroidery is obtained;
  • It is also possible to connect the necessary grid by means of a conventional hook;
  • You can still make a knitted mesh cut into the fabric: for this you need to take the cloth and cut the threads in it, and then wrap each piece you got.

It should also be noted that the fillet is of two types:

  • Usual: It is something similar to all countable embroidery, for example embroidery with a cross. Choosing this method, you will alternate empty and filled cells. Beginners like this embroidery, because it is easy to perform;
  • Guipure embroidery is a little more complicated, but with itsYou can create more interesting patterns. Using this technique, you can embroider various leaves, twigs, berries, flowers or asterisks.
  • Types of seams for fillet and guipure embroidery

    Usually the grid is embroidered using the following seams:
    Darning stitch
    Darning stitch This is perhaps one of the mostfast seams, it is used in cases where it is necessary to fill a large number of cells. If you want to embroider something with this seam, you must simultaneously overlap several fillet cells at once, so that the needle and thread pass either above the partition or vice versa under it. Starting a new row, you will have to go around the partitions from the other side.
    Darning stitch with lining
    Darning seam with lining It turns out quitedurable due to the fact that the threads of the flooring in it do not move apart. In order to embroider one cell with such a seam, you need to secure the working thread in the left corner of the cell, which is located on top, and then pass it under the vertical partition located opposite. Then the thread must be returned back so that it makes a figure eight. In this simple way, using these eights, you can fill the entire cell.
    Plain seam
    Linen seamMore often found in worksmade "antique". In order to perform it, you need to fasten the thread in the corner of the cell and then stretch it through the entire cell, making it like the main one. It turns out that the fillet embroidered cell has additional partitions. If the drawing is located on several adjacent cells, then you will have to stretch this kind of base over them. In this case, you will need to either skip or, on the contrary, grab the partitions with a needle. Across this warp you will need to make a darning stitch, with which you will need to grab, passing all the threads of your warp through one. You will need to make plain stitches first in one direction and then in the opposite direction. However, try not to pull the threads too tightly. For a linen seam, it is better to choose not very thick threads, then the resulting patterns will look amazing and will seem incredibly delicate and airy. A guipure napkin with a linen stitch will become one of the best decorations in your home.
    Seam "Web" Perhaps, the most commonIs the seam "Web" it is made with the help of air loops. In this case, loops can be placed not only in rows, but also in a circle. Such a light guipure embroidery will look charming on any napkin.

    “Cobweb” seam In order to make such a seamyou need to attach the working thread to the very center of the vertical partition and make a loop while grabbing the center of the horizontal partition. The peculiarity of this seam is that the loops in it are made exclusively from right to left. At the same time, the needle itself must be moved from top to bottom, passing it under the fillet thread, but so that it “lies” on the working thread. You should not pull the thread, leave it hanging freely almost to the middle of the partition.
    Having done all of the above, you will need to pass the thread under the partition (located vertically) to the center of the horizontal partition of the adjacent cell located on the right.
    Having finished the top row, you will have to do the sameyou can also make the bottom one in this way, but you will need to secure all the loops that hang freely. In order to move to the bottom row, you must wrap around the vertical partition of the first left cell. Thus, it turns out that your fillet-decorated napkin will have a pattern consisting of small rings.

    Wavy seam

    Wavy seam When making a wavy seam, you shouldpull the thread from the corner through 2 cells vertically, so that it passes under the fillet knot. In order to move to the next row, you need to twist the vertical partition.
    When making this seam, the thread can be pulled not only through two, but also through one cell, thanks to this you can adjust the “thickness” of your waves.
    Using this seam you can also make a fairly dense lattice of diamonds. To do this, you need to apply the next wave to the crosswise stitch.
    Guipure embroidery most often represents a variety of different floral patterns. It is often used to decorate not only napkins and tablecloths, but also capes, dresses, and shirts.

    How to decorate the edges of napkins with openwork embroidery

    So, you filleted the napkin, using forThis, for example, a floral pattern, but looking at it you understand that your product is unfinished. The optimal solution to this problem can be a beautiful, accurate embroidery on the edge of the product.

    You need to start processing the edges of your napkinonly when you complete the main pattern. First of all, you will need to decide on the shape of the edges: take a piece of paper and draw the shape you want on it. To make the drawing more symmetrical, you can reproduce it only by ¼ of the size you need.
    Then the drawing must be carefully transferred toa napkin, the middle of which is decorated with your embroidery. To do this, you can use carbon paper or cut out your shape and place it on the fabric to trace the edges.
    The main thing is not to cut the fabric right away, you will do it a little later. Lay one line along the outline you drew, using
    . And then you will need to finish the edges of your fillet napkin using a blanket stitch.
    The next row, also made using an overlock stitch, should in no case touch the fabric. It will be sparser and will capture exclusively free-hanging stitches.
    Using the same pattern, you will need to make another row. Now your embroidery will become more neat and openwork.
    Now you can move on to the finalthe stage during which the fillet napkin you made will be finished. Carefully trim off any excess fabric, but be careful not to damage your lace trim.
    The final touch before taking yours outthe creation will become a wash for the general public to judge. To ensure that the embroidery on your napkin is not damaged, it is best to wash it in a warm soapy solution, and then lightly wring it out, place it on a terry towel and wait for it to dry.
    A dry napkin can only be ironed from the wrong side and only through damp gauze.
