Embroidery on clothes with own hands (scheme)

Embroidery on clothes does not lose its relevanceover many centuries. No matter what class a person was, everyone had clothes with embroidery. And especially skilled craftswomen decorated the outfits of the rich class with their own hands, while remaining in a modest embroidered shirt.
True, initially hand embroidery was not onlydecorated clothes, it was also given a protective meaning, but over the years, the aesthetics of the perception of clothes with embroidery came to the fore. Embroidered clothes, regardless of whether there is a brand label or logo on it or not, are always original. And it does not matter what technique your outfit is decorated with - cross stitch, satin stitch, stem stitch, Richelieu... - the main thing is how it is done.

The first steps in embroidery

Decide on the clothes. Work out your skills. For example, a cross on cotton T-shirts, pants, shirts ... They are convenient for the first work experience and not the most expensive.
Choose the area of decoration. If it is a shirt, the best place is for a personal logo (embroidery can also be considered this way – a sign of your exclusive work):

  • Gate;
  • Cuffs;
  • pocket;
  • Pockets;
  • belt.

Choose a picture. Drawing attention to the schemes, give priority to those where drawings with a repeating pattern are depicted. It is easier for them to follow, especially at the initial stage of work.
When we improve our skills, we can cross-stitch complex logos and patterns: on the chest, sleeves and back of the garment. As in these photos:

What to do next - step two

We erase what we decorate. So you will insure yourself against shrinkage of fabric and distortion of the pattern, and check whether the clothing is sewn with embroidery or not. Otherwise it will be very insulting if your manual work and the hopes associated with it are lost at the first wash.
We also check the threads for color fastness:wet them, wrap them in a white cloth and see if it has become colored. If so, don't get upset, but treat the threads by lathering them heavily with laundry soap (by wrapping them, for example, on a clothespin) and immersing them in very hot water for 15 minutes. Rinse thoroughly in cold water and hold them in a solution of vinegar and salt for a few minutes. Then rinse again with your hands, wrap them in a white cloth and iron. If there are stains again, it is best to boil the threads for about five minutes in a vinegar-salt solution. After that, they will definitely not fade, but will only delight you with their colors.
For the anti-lime solution:

  • 1 cup of cold water;
  • 1 tbsp. L. 9% vinegar;
  • 1 tbsp. L. Salt.

After ironing the clothes, attach the canvas to the place of the design or logo, having ironed it first.
It is better if it is slightly larger than the drawing on the diagram.
The canvas needs to be secured tightly, smoothing out the wrinkles with your hands, pins or a basting stitch. This way it won't slip.
To ensure that the embroidery on your clothes is neat,There should be no noticeable punctures in the pattern, so the needle should have a small eye. And another piece of advice: try not to puncture the threads of the canvas itself when cross-stitching in squares, otherwise it will be difficult to remove. If you do everything correctly, the canvas threads can be easily removed by hand by alternately (!) pulling out its horizontal and vertical rows.
The patterns we offer in the photo (which are cross-stitched) can be great for the first experience of decorating clothes on your own for adults and children or can become your personal logo:

Once you have gained some experience, you will be able to use more complex patterns and embroidery designs in clothing, giving it a special chic with your own hands, using the patterns in these photos:

The basics of embroidery

If you prefer the embroidery on the clothes more smoothly, you do not need to use the canvas.
Experienced embroiderers shared with us their tips on applying the future design to the fabric:

  • Felting the fabric, apply a pattern on thin paper, and sew the contour manually or on a typewriter if you own a sewing with the conveyor down;
  • Apply the drawing with a "chemical" pencil;
  • You can draw a thin piece of dry soap, but not colored.

Choose any option, and do not forget to break the pattern into sections, so it will be easier to embroider and a simple logo, and a complex pattern.
There are various patterns for satin stitch embroidery, for example:

And these patterns are suitable for embroidering a logo or a bright pattern:

We hope that these patterns, which you can copy onto transparent paper or directly onto fabric, will be useful for decorating your clothes:

Clothes with embroidery will always be original and unique!
