This master class will teach you how to make an original gift for the New Year - a scrapbooking notebook
There are many holidays during the year.But, probably, not every product can be a universal gift for every holiday. You will probably agree with me? But that is not true, in this master class I will prove it to you. And we will create a beautiful notebook. It is notebooks, in my opinion, that are the most universal gifts for all occasions. And we will make a notebook using the scrapbooking technique.Are you ready to get started? If your answer is yes, then let's get started right now. But first we need to prepare everything we need (material), namely:
- block for notepad with Coptic binding;
- shebby ribbon;
- brads;
- scrapbooking paper;
- thread in the tone of the fabric;
- fabric plain cotton;
- fabric with a pattern of unbleached cotton;
- skeletonized sheet in the tone of the fabric;
- ink pad with brown paint;
- a picture on paper;
- flower for scrap;
- sintepon;
- cardboard for binding or ordinary cardboard;
- half-beads;
- double sided tape;
- Leaflets for scrap;
- Adhesive transparent to fabric;
- paper for the fly-leaf.
Well, is everything ready?Then let's get down to business right away. As a basis for the notebook, we will use a ready-made block with a binding. You can make it yourself, but this is a very long process, plus you need a special machine for evenly trimming the edge of the block. Such blocks can be ordered and bought, for example, in a printing house, or in specialized handicraft stores. We measure the size by the width and length of our block - the base.
According to the width and length of the block, we will start measuringrectangular pieces on bookbinding or regular cardboard. The only thing is, we still need to add about 0.5 cm on the top, bottom and side. We will cut these parts on a self-healing mat using a sharp stationery knife and a ruler.
Now let's move on to another element - the binding width. Let's measure it too. Let's add about 3 mm to this value.
Then we measure the width of the binding on the cardboard, taking into account the additional 3 mm, and measure the length equal to the previous rectangle.
We cut out this detail as well.So, we should have three blanks prepared. Since I used regular thick cardboard in our case, I took two sheets and glued them together, you can do the same.
Now let's take another loose piece of cardboard, its width can be arbitrary, but not less than 10 cm, and its length - the same as the previous blanks.
We will glue a piece of strip that we cut out to measure the dimensions of the binding onto it in the center.
Then we glue them on the opposite two sidesparts of the cover, stepping back from the middle strip by approximately 2 mm. This is necessary so that later on it will be possible to bend the finished cover well and easily. This is the cover from the inside.
This is how this piece will look from the front side.
Now let's prepare the padding polyester to make the cover soft. Lay it out in one layer.
Place our prepared cardboard (blank) on top of the padding polyester. And trim the padding polyester with allowances of 2-3 cm on all sides.
Then, carefully distributing the synthetic padding, we stitch the blank on top of it from the cardboard side.
Using sharp scissors, we cut off all the edges of the synthetic padding that protrude beyond the cardboard.
This is how your cover base should look like. It should close freely, without tension.
Now we move on to the front part of the notebook. For this, we will prepare two pieces of fabric. Iron them with a hot iron.
We place the pieces of fabric on top of each other, face to face.
On one side we will stitch the fabrics together, thus we will get two different colored sides of the notebook.
If necessary, iron the front side additionally.
Place the cardboard base in the center of the seam on top of the wrong side of the fabric.
We will stick double-sided tape as shown in the photo.
Then, having peeled off the back side of the tape, we fix the flaps of the fabric, bending them inward.
And then from the front side along the edge we will stitch the cover at a distance of 0.5 mm from the edge. The fabric should not be stretched, it should be loose.
Prepare scrapbooking paper and a drawing. Cut a small piece of paper that is half the size of the cover.
We will shade the edges of the paper and the drawing with brown paint using an ink pad.
We sew the paper along the edge using a machine stitch.
Then, moving onto the stitched paper, we stitch on the illustration.
We pin the skeletonized leaflet using brads, and lightly glue its top so that the leaflet does not bend while using the notebook.
Let's prepare some small ribbon and brads.
Carefully pin the ribbon along the edge of the stitched paper lengthwise, randomly using a brad, and at the same time, gluing it in some places with glue.
Glue two scrapbook leaves to the bottom.
We will glue a beautiful voluminous flower on top.
Let's prepare the paper for the endpaper. Fold the sheet in half.
Glue one part to the block, let it dry. And glue the second part to the back of the cover. Put it under something heavy.
The notebook needs to dry.
All is ready!
