This master class will teach you how to make your own hands decoupage of a cutting board in the technique of a two-step craquelure.
To obtain cracks, two compositions are used:which conflict with each other, having different drying rates, which is why cracks appear, which appear as soon as they are rubbed with certain compounds. For this work I prepared:
- Wooden cutting board
- Sandpaper
- Sponge from foam rubber in clerical clasp
- White paint
- Scissors
- Brushes
- Clay of the WPA
- Paper napkin
- Iron
- Waxed paper
- Acrylic lacquer
- Shellac varnish
- Crackle lacquer
- Bituminous varnish
- Cotton pad
- Dry napkin
The surface of the board was sanded with sandpaper.I covered the surface of the board with a thin layer of white paint and let it dry. Then I covered it with another layer. To make the surface even and smooth, I went over it with sandpaper again.I chose a napkin in which the required fragment completely covers the surface of the board, and cut off the excess part with scissors. It is difficult to glue such a large fragment evenly, without folds. Therefore, I chose the hot method for this. I coated the surface of the board thickly with PVA glue and left it until it was completely dry.I divided the napkin into layers. I placed the top layer on the board over the entire surface.I placed wax paper on top of the napkin. And ironed it with a hot iron without steam. After the napkin cooled, I coated it with varnish.Step 1 - applied shellac varnish and let it dry.I applied the second coat of varnish. The size and depth of the cracks depend on the thickness of the layers of the compositions. Dried until sticky. Step 2 - applied crackle varnish and spread it over the entire surface with circular movements of the finger. Rubbed the varnish until the finger began to stick.I left it to dry until cracks appeared. They appear for a long time while the compositions are drying. I rubbed bitumen varnish into the cracked compositions with a cotton pad. I wiped off excess bitumen with a dry cloth. Many craftswomen wash off the 2nd step, I do not practice, I do not quite like the final result after washing. The edges of the board, especially the corners, were treated with bitumen varnish.Advice: if you decide not to wash off the 2nd step, then you can not cover with aqualak. The surface of the board is covered with shellac varnish. The board is ready.
