How to crochet a shawl with one cloth and from motifs, diagrams and a description of the performance of the work from the center of the shawl, from the bottom corner and the bottom, a description of how to make the brushes on the shawl and tie a magnificent column
The history of shawls conquering women's hearts has begunmore than five centuries ago in India. Kashmir, located in the northwestern part of the country, has long been famous for its goats, which had incredibly soft wool. Threads spun from this wool were used to create amazingly thin bedspreads - shawls, which were, surprisingly, an item of purely men's clothing. And only men could make this item of clothing. There were two options for creating a shawl - weaving from threads or embroidering a finished cloth. The first option was more labor-intensive and valued much higher. It took more than one month to weave a simple shawl, and for a particularly beautiful and patterned one, it took several years, and two - three weavers worked on it at once. Shawls owe their popularity in Europe to the light hand of Josephine Beauharnais. Napoleon Bonaparte brought his beloved wife from the Egyptian campaign many oriental souvenirs, among which were shawls. Josephine, as one of the trendsetters, quickly introduced beautiful and warm things into circulation. This was perfect for empire style dresses - light, thin and, for cold France, not quite suitable. In addition, the dress of the antique style was distinguished by the absence of any bows, ruffles and lace, which the shawl would simply hide. The strict silhouette of outfits was now softened by bright and original accessories. The shawl begins its triumphant march through the wardrobes of fashionistas. Models appear in a wide variety of variations: rectangular, square, triangular and even with eight corners, long and short. Wearing shawls becomes a real art. The opening of manufactories and workshops around the world leads to the emergence of new patterns, such as "paisley", in honor of the Scottish town where the pattern was invented. Depending on how the style and cut of dresses changed, the sizes of the shawl also changed. During the reign of Catherine II, the knitting of famous scarves and shawls was already in full swing in Orenburg. These world-famous products, more than three meters in width and length, were easily threaded through a ring and placed entirely in a goose egg shell. It took a craftswoman several months to create such magnificence. In this article, we invite you to try yourself in the role of craftswomen of the past and knit several versions of beautiful shawls with a crochet hook. If you are just trying yourself as a needlewoman, remember a few simple rules. Buy all the required amount of yarn for the product at once. If you buy additional threads during the process, there is a risk of mismatching shades. Even the same yarn from one manufacturer in different batches may differ slightly in color. Usually, the thread labels indicate the number of a suitable hook, if such information is not available, just measure the diameter of the thread. It should match the diameter of the hook near the head in the thinnest place. And a little about the combination of color and pattern. If you choose bright melange or sectional dyed threads, give preference to a simple pattern. And vice versa, openwork and ornate patterns will be optimally combined with plain yarn. Warm shawl with a pattern of lush columnsTo knit this shawl you will need about 200 g of thin mohair yarn in ivory or baked milk color and a corresponding hook. This shawl is knitted from the center to the sides.Cast on 3 ch and close into a ring. First row.3 ch, 5 ch, 1 dc into a ring of 3 ch, 5 ch, 1 dc into a ring of 3 ch. Expand the work. Second row. 3 ch, 5 ch, 1 sc into the arch of 5 ch, 5 ch, 1 dc into the dc of the first row, and again 2 arches of 5 ch, secured with 1 sc. The last loop will always be 1 dc. Third row. 3 ch, 5 ch, 1 sc into the last arch of 5 ch of the second row, 2 ch. 1 magnificent column into the sc of the second row, 2 ch, 1 dc sc into the 5 ch sp, 5 ch, 1 dc into the dc of the second row, knit the second half symmetrically. First, an arch of 5 ch, secured with 1 sc into the arch of the previous row, then 2 ch, 1 fluffy column into sc and 2 more ch, 1 sc, an arch of 5 ch and 1 dc into the 3rd ch. Fourth row. 3 ch.p. arch of 5 ch, 1 sc into the last arch of the previous row, 5 ch, 1 sc into the fluffy column, 5 ch, 1 sc into the arch of the row below, 5 ch again, 1 dc into the st. dc of the third row and again knit the second half symmetrically. We start each row with 3 chp and finish with 1 dc, knitted in the 3rd chp of the previous row. The lush column is knitted very simply. The diagram is shown in the figure.Yarn over the hook as if you were knitting.a regular double crochet, pull the working thread out of the loop of the previous row (you have three loops on the hook). Now, without knitting them, make another yarn over and pull another loop out of the same loop of the previous row. There are already 5 loops on the hook. Make another yarn over and pull another loop out of the same base loop. You already have 7 loops on the hook. Now you knit the last six loops together. You have 2 loops on the hook. Now we knit them and get a lush column. The number of yarn overs can change, everything will depend on how much "lushness" you want. The shawl in the photo is 63 rows. Dimensions 146 cm x 73 cm. If desired, you can increase or decrease the number of rows and, as a result, the size of the shawl. Knit the 64th row simply with arches of 5 ch and make a fringe. All that remains is to moisten the shawl and dry it in a straightened state. Shawl made of warm chocolate-colored yarnVery beautiful shawl with a strict geometricpattern that softens and highlights the deep chocolate shade of the yarn. The amount of yarn will depend on how big a shawl you want to knit. On average, yarn (280 m / 100 g) on a hook No. 3 will need from 300 g to 500 g. For a medium-sized shawl. Its size will also depend on how tightly you knit.The shawl is triangular. We start working from the bottom corner.Cast on 9 ch and close into a ring. First row: 5 chp, 5 ch, 3 dc into a ring of 9 ch, 5 ch, 1 dc with 3/n into a ring of 9 ch. Second row: 4 chp, 4 ch, 1 sc into the space of 5 ch, 10 ch, 1 sc into the next space of ch, 4 ch, 1 dc with 2/n into the 5th chp. Third row: 5 chp, 5 ch, 3 dc into the space of 4 ch, 5 ch, 1 dc into the space of 10 ch, 5 ch, 3 dc s/n in the arch of 4 ch, 5 ch, 1 dc with 3/n in the 4th ch p.p. of the second row. Fourth row. 4 ch p.p., 4 ch, 1 dc. sc in the arch, 10 ch, 1 dc. sc in the next arch, 4 ch, 1 dc. sc in the next arch, 10 ch, 1 dc. sc in the next arch, 4 ch, 1 dc. with 2/n in the 5th ch p.p. of the third row. Knit further in the same way until the desired size of the shawl. If desired, decorate with tassels. It is very easy to do. You need to cut the thread into pieces 2 times longer than the intended tassels. Then take one or more pieces, fold them in half, use a hook to pull the resulting loop through the holes formed by the outer loops of the shawl and thread the ends of the thread pieces through this loop. All that remains is to tighten the threads. You can adjust the thickness and length of the fringe yourself. A bright coral shawl made with a Pineapple patternThe openwork, warm-toned shawl is knitted with a narrowing from the widest part. The size of the shawl in the photo is 155 cm x 110 cm, excluding tassels. You will need:
- Yarn of mohair with a metallic about 250 g (you can buy separately mohair threads and separately metallized and knit in two strands);
- Hook No. 2 - No. 2.5.
Since all needlewomen have different knitting density, make a 10 x 10 cm pattern sample to calculate the number of cast-on stitches. In the photo, the cast-on row of the shawl consists of 275 stitches.First row: 1 ch, 1 sc, 4 ch., skip 3 loops, *2 sc, 4 ch, skip 3 loops*, continue from * to the end of the row. Second row. 3 ch, in 3 arches of 4 ch knit 5 arches of 4 ch, securing them with sc as follows: the first arch - in the first arch of the first row, the second arch - between the first and second arches of the first row, the third arch - in the second arch of the first row, the fourth - between the second and third arches of the first row and the fifth - in the third arch of the first row. 3 ch, in the next arch of the first row we knit 3 dc, 3 ch and again five arches in the next three arches of the first row, continue alternating fives of arches with 3 dc to the end of the row. Third row. 3 ch, in 5 arches of the second row we knit 4 arches of 4 ch, securing them with sc in the middle of the arches of the row below, then 4 ch, in the first dc we knit 2 dc, in the second dc we knit 1 dc and in the third dc we knit 2 dc, 4 ch and again 4 arches of 4 ch, continue to the end of the row. The fourth row 3 ch, now we will have 3 arches of 4 ch, secured with sc in the middle of the arches below, 4 ch, in 4 dc we knit (2 dc, 2 dc with a common top, 2 dc), 4 ch and again 3 arches. So we knit to the end of the row. Following the pattern, knit to the end. If you want to make the shawl larger or smaller, you will need to change the number of loops in the cast-on row (the pattern is indicated on the pattern). If desired, you can tie the shawl with sc (2 sc for each arch of 3 ch). In the photo, the tassels consist of 18 threads of regular yarn and 7 pieces of metallic thread, their length is 55 cm. Shawl of small floral motifsThis shawl is made from separate motifs, connected together in the process of knitting the last row, starting with the second motif.The diagram offers a pattern and shows the places where the motifs are connected to each other. You will need:
- Yarn of 100% wool (230 m / 50 g) is about 300 g;
- Hook No. 3.
Cast on 6 ch.and close into a ring with a slip stitch. First row 3 ch, 11 dc into the ring, 1 ss. Second row 1 ch, knit 6 arches of 5 ch, securing them with sc between every two dc, finish with 2 ss. Third row in each arch knit 1 sc, 1 half dc, 1 dc, 2 dc with 2 dc, 1 dc, 1 half dc, 1 dc. Openwork star shawlA charming and light shawl made of large "stars", you will need to knit 36 of them, connected to each other by small "stars", you will need 28 of them.You will need:
- Yarn from cotton with the addition of metallic 280 m / 50 g;
- Beads;
- Hook No. 2.
Big "star" First rowIn a ring of 4 ch, knit 7 dc, alternating them with 2 ch. As always, instead of the first dc, we knit 3 ch p p in this and all subsequent circles. Finish with 2 ss. Second row. In the arches of 2 ch, we knit 5 dc with a common top, between fives of dc we knit 4 ch. Finish with ss. Third row. In the common tops of 5 dc, we knit 5 dc with a common top and base, in the arches of 4 ch, we knit 4 dc, between fives of dc and fours we knit 1 ch. Finish with 1 ss this and all subsequent circles. The fifth row and then we knit according to the pattern. Small "Star" We knit the first 2 rows similarly to the large motif. Third row In the arches of 4 ch we knit alternately 1 dc and 2 dc and 5 ch between them. In between we knit 5 ch. The places of connection of the motifs are indicated by arrows. We fasten them in the process of knitting the last row in any way convenient for you. We sew beads to the center of large "stars". The diagram shows an example of tying the edge of a shawl using arches of 5 ch with dc. Original shawl with a central heart patternThis shawl is for those who like to create from ordinary thingsand simple elements unexpected and unusual combinations. Knitting of this shawl will occur from the center to the sides with loop increases in three directions.You will need:
- Sectional dyeing yarn approx. 600 g (230 m / 100 g);
- Hook No. 2;
- Beads under the color of thread.
The first diagram shows the beginning of the work.Basically, the shawl is knitted with a bias net from three central elements. They are knitted separately from threads of different shades and connected in the process of knitting the net. In diagram 1, the corner elements are indicated. They should be knitted after the central 3 motifs are knitted, and several rows of the net are also completed. Such corner motifs should be knitted every five - six net rows in the corners of the resulting triangle. When the shawl reaches the desired size, it is knitted according to the second diagram. For those who know how to knit with beads, you can string beads directly on the thread, those who have not yet mastered this art can embroider with beads after completing the binding or do not decorate additionally at all, since the shawl itself is quite original and remarkable. With beads, you need to knit 1 row of sc. Diagram 2 shows how to attach the tassels. If you knit from sectionally dyed yarn, then the pieces of thread for the tassels should be sorted by shades. The length of the tassels in the photo is 15 cm, therefore, the pieces of thread are needed 30 cm in length.
