Tips, advice on embroidery icons with beads, schemes.

One of the most ancient materials for needlework -beads. Tiny beads made of bone, stone, shells and precious metals serve to decorate and create a variety of bead products for many centuries. They are found in the tombs of Maya, Egyptians, Scythians and Etruscans. From multi-colored beads, needlewomen wove amazingly beautiful ornaments. Beaded jewelry, due to the quality, formats and color palette of the material successfully competes with jewelry. Small beads are used to create colors and decor elements of the room, such as candlesticks. And of course, the masters are beaded. It can be a collar, which is sure to become the highlight of the whole image, an ornament along the edge of a sleeve or hem, and of course, pictures. A rich color and toning solution and a variety of formats, as well as an abundance of embroidery schemes allow you to create real masterpieces. A separate line is the embroidering of icons. This branch in needlework is gaining momentum, and in the articles of our Club will be proposed schemes for embroidery, and told about some of the nuances of the work. Provided that you want to receive not justa picture with a theme of religion, but a real icon, there are a number of features in the work that need to be followed. The icon is embroidered according to already prepared drawings, on which the face and some details do not require processing. For them, the method of printed silkscreen printing is used, it is not necessary to embroider them. Partial embroidery can be explained by religious canons. According to Orthodox beliefs, embroidery of faces on icons to ordinary people is unacceptable. This work can only be done by masters who have a high spirituality, and for this, a church blessing is also necessary. That is why, fully embroidered icons are the prerogative of professional embroiderers or embroiderers who have a dignity and work at monasteries. Just before you start working it is worth to visit the church, discuss with the priest the picture you chose for canonicality and receive a blessing. After the end of work, the embroidered picture must be sanctified, only after that it will be considered a real icon. When embroidering a background, it is worth to chooseordinary matte beads, almost without gloss, transparency and various spectacular coatings. And for the garments of saints to give preference to iridescent shiny beads, with a pearl shimmer or gold coating. Another important aspect is the quality of the beads. Preference should be given to Japanese or Czech beads. They have an excellent calibration (all beads of the same size), as well as colors that do not wipe and do not fade. When the beads are poorly matched, the embroidered fabric can be bumped and twisted. The embroidery of the icon process is very time consuming and painstaking. Beginning needlewomen will have to apply twice as much effort to obtain the ideal result. They also need to use ready-made kits for embroidery. For icons, you need a special canvas (the face on them is already embroidered), in colors that match the shades of the picture, fishing line, monofilament or thread for embroidery. The choice should be stopped on special threads made of cotton or silk. They have high resistance to tearing and friction and a small elongation. To ensure that the thread does not twist during operation, it can be covered with a thin layer of wax. The tone of the thread is selected under the shade of the canvas. Needed and special needles for embroidery. They are very thin, quickly blunt and can break, so you should not stock up one, but at least a whole package. To thread easily into the eye of a needle, there is a little trick from experienced embroiderers: Dip the tip of the thread into a colorless varnish, dry it a bit, flatten it with fingers and wait until it dries completely. Stronger to wax the end of the thread. If you use a fishing line or a nylon thread, you can scorch and flatten the end. Needed will still embroidery frame for embroidery, as for other paintings. Under the weight of beads, embroidery can sag, it is worthwhile to make sure that the fabric is tightly stretched, so that there is no distortion in the work. For the icons, a hoop in the form of a rectangular frame of light tubes is suitable. They can be combined in different versions, depending on the size of the icon. In such frames the canvas is securely fixed with clips, and the small weight will be an additional plus in their favor. When all the necessary preparations are made, you can proceed directly to the embroidery. The work is done from the top to the bottom or from the bottom to the top. Embroider in parts. For fastening, the first and last stitches are made double. Most of the work is done by the monastic seam: When the thread is on the front side, a bead is strung on it, making a diagonal stitch. Thread on the wrong side. Make a vertical stitch down. The thread again on the front side and on it again string a bead. On the front side, diagonal stitches are obtained, and on the right side, vertical stitches. So embroidered clothes. Ornament on the perimeter of the icon can be embroidered with a stalk seam: When the thread is on the front side thread 2 beads. Go to the wrong side next to the second bead. Thread on the wrong side. Go to the front side between the two beads, pass the thread into the second hole, thread the third bead and again pass the needle to the wrong side next to the third bead. When the picture is completely ready and placed in a frame, it can be attributed to the church for consecration.
