Weaving from newspaper tubes - a lesson for beginners with photos
A cozy and decorated home is the goal of everyonehousewives. For this, some use all sorts of decorative ornaments, while others turn to the recommendations of our ancestors and decorate their homes with wickerwork. Of course, the most attractive items are those made from wooden vines, which are prepared in advance. However, this will require you to walk through the forest thickets in search of the necessary trees, cut off twigs, soak them and dry them properly. We offer an easier option - use newspapers instead of twigs. From our detailed lesson, you will learn how to weave from newspaper tubes, and thanks to step-by-step instructions, you will be able to make your first product with your own hands.Preparing the paper vine.As a material, you can choose a clean sheet of office paper, but in practice it is clear that weaving with such thick paper is more difficult. Newsprint used in printing houses can be called an ideal option, since the absence of printed text makes it easier to color the product. First, we find a large number of newspapers. Using a sharp knife, we cut strips equal in width to 100 millimeters. At first, you can learn to make shorter strips, and after you have acquired some skill, you can move on to longer ones. Remember that the product is easier to make from strips of greater length. The strip of paper is placed in front of you, and a knitting needle is applied to it, maintaining an acute angle. After this, the acute angle of the newspaper is tucked under the needle and the sheet is twisted. This should be done as tightly as possible.
Don't worry if one end isthicker than the other. This is acceptable, but you should avoid big differences. Using glue, fix the corner of the sheet so that the tube does not unravel later. You will need to make about 50 of these tubes, so be patient. The total number of tubes depends on the size and complexity of the products. The steps you take next will depend on the chosen method of painting the finished product. Painting can be done before weaving, but in this case, a number of nuances will arise. If you choose the wrong varnish, the tubes will become stiff and brittle, due to which the product will be rough. We recommend using acrylic varnish used in art works. A basket or box made of tubes with clearly visible text, with multi-colored or two-color paint, looks no less attractive. A chest for small items, a shoe, a floor box, a photo frame look nice and original. It is allowed to paint the product after completion of the work, especially if the product has a simple shape.
We learn to extend tubes and weave.Sometimes, due to the height of the craft (for example, a vase), a high extension of the tubes will be required. To make this stage easier for yourself, you need to learn how to join the tubes correctly. We mentioned above that the tubes will have different thicknesses at the tips. Thanks to this, we can join them unnoticeably. To do this, take a stick with a thicker tip, and another - with a thin one. Next, carefully insert the sticks into each other and twist slightly.
To secure the joint, we lubricate the thinner one.tip, using glue. You can often find a recommendation to cut off the thick tip before attaching it to the vine. In this case, you will get a fairly noticeable transition, because the thickness of the stick walls will be much greater than if you had not cut it. And in our example, the transition will be quite smooth, and after you paint it, it will be completely invisible. Then we will use the simplest method of weaving, in other words, weaving in one strip. To do this, take the bottom and fix the stick near some rack. In this case, you should think in advance what will become the form that needs to be braided. Such a base can be a bottle, a jar, or a box, if you plan to create an original basket. All edges of the racks must be raised up, and then you can fix them using clothespins. Then we move on to the actual weaving of the product racks with paper vine.
It is also possible to use 2 tubes forcreating a basket. In the future, you will be able to alternately make products from one or two tubes. A more labor-intensive method is to weave a rope. In this case, you need to use 2 paper tubes that will be placed on different sides of the base of the stand, intertwining with each other in the area between the stands themselves. This type of weaving looks very attractive, and the product itself is durable and retains its shape perfectly.
How to weave a Christmas tree from newspaper tubes? There is such a type of linear weaving as spiral or oblique. It is possible to use the spiral weaving option when making vases, as well as such crafts as glasses and Christmas trees. To weave a Christmas tree, you can only use stands that will be connected to each other with tubes with a small offset. Even novice craftswomen can quickly master this weaving technology. After you have mastered this technology, you can safely move on to more complex weaving options, and therefore create new interesting crafts.
Some tips on weaving items fromnewspaper tubes. For example, to create a basket using the weaving method, it will be enough to make a shape using the classic technology. Then, on both sides, you should weave in several tubes, based on which you will create a handle. However, if you do not have enough experience in this type of handicraft, try to start with the easiest to make items: a flower, a cup, a stand or a candy bowl.
Go for it and you will definitely succeed.
