An envelope is an essential part of a wardrobenewborn baby: they are discharged from the hospital in it and go for walks in it. If you knit a warm envelope for a newborn with your own hands, you will get a unique thing that suits your baby in color and size and carries mother's love.

Selecting a model
Envelopes can be very diverse:
- A cocoon or a sleeping bag with a hood;
- A cocoon with sleeves and a hood, trimmed with decorative knitted details (ears-muzzles of little animals, laces), as well as brushes, cords, beautiful buttons, etc.);
- Plaid for the newborn, in which the baby is wrapped for a walk.
They all have their own characteristics. Most of the knitted envelopes in the form of a cocoon are quite spacious, the child in them will "fall through". Therefore, before you bind such an envelope for a newborn on your own, you need to carefully calculate the dimensions of the product, in which the baby would fit tightly in the envelope in his warm clothes. And this means also that from such a thing the crumb will quickly grow.
Knitted cocoons with sleeves, in addition, free up the arms for movement. An example of such an envelope is in the following video.
But, first of all, the newborn baby is not yethe needs so much freedom, and secondly, he will be warmer if his arms are swaddled to his body. Therefore, from the point of view of common sense, it is better to prefer other options.
For example, an envelope that can be knitted likea warm blanket knitted with the selected number. It differs from a regular blanket in the presence of a hood for the head. A newborn baby is always wrapped tightly in such a model - this is one. It is knitted easier - this is two. Such a knitted blanket can also be used for its intended purpose longer: the dimensions allow it - this is three. Well, the fourth bonus is that such a blanket for a newborn can be used when the baby grows up: to cover him on walks in a stroller or even in a crib at home.
Design features
Such things for newborns are always made onlining: either it is cut out of warm materials (for example, fleece), or knitted from natural soft yarn with a smooth pattern: stocking or garter knitting. Considering that winters have become increasingly severe in recent years, a reasonable option would be to use an insulating layer (made of sheepskin, synthetic padding) between the envelope and the lining.
Sleeping bags are fastened on the sides with buttons or zippers (buttons are extremely inconvenient here). For buttons, you will also have to knit strips for the fasteners.
Beginner needlewomen should stop atsimpler models consisting of a straight piece of fabric that is sewn together at the top to form a hood. Let's look at two of them: a newborn envelope with side fasteners and a blanket-like one. You will need:
- Natural woolen yarn (very good for the top mohair) or acrylic;
- Spokes number 3,5 and 2,5;
- Fleece or other warm lining material (if it will be knitted - then acrylic yarn);
- Thread and needle for sewing lining and zatezhki;
- Lightning or buttons.
Control samples
In order to calculate the exact quantityloops for casting on, knit control samples of the selected pattern with the same knitting needles and yarn that will be used to knit an envelope or blanket. Patterns for such items can be very voluminous: with braids, cords, convex details. The number of loops is cast on, taking into account the size of the future item and the pattern rapport (sometimes you need to cast on more loops to completely fit the pattern).
Dimensions of products For children's knittedAn envelope sleeping bag needs a width of about 40 cm (one of them 4 cm on each side has to be subtracted from the width of the fasteners if the thing is fastened with buttons). In length it will be 125 cm: 25 - on the hood, the remaining 100 cm, bent in half - the envelope itself.
To knit a warm blanket with your own hands, you need to cast on loops up to 80 cm wide. (Let's take 1 meter in length - a blanket of this size will last longer).
Selecting a pattern In this master class, a model is shown that is knitted with braids.
But you can rip out any other pattern you like.
The principle of knitting and assembling an envelope Knitting a canvasOf the winter children's envelope begin with a strip (in assembled form it will frame the product on the breast of the newborn): 4 centimeters are sewed with garter stitch or rubber band 1x1. Then continue the work of the chosen pattern to the desired length, after which the second end of the loop is closed (there is no need for a bar - this edge will go into the seam of the hood).
Then everything depends on the clasp.The zipper does not require a special strip, so the fabric is initially knitted to the full width. To sew on buttons, select loops along the edge from the sides of the winter baby envelope and knit the same 4 cm of elastic or garter stitch. Close the loops, tuck in the ends of the threads. Then fold the upper edge of the winter baby envelope in half and sew - you get a hood.
The lining, if it is also knitted, is doneequal to the width and length of the envelope excluding the bars. If the fastener is planned to be a zipper, then the dimensions of the lining are equal to the dimensions of the envelope excluding the top bar (this was the beginning of knitting). Next, the winter baby envelope is folded face to face with the lining, the insulation is placed between them and all the layers are sewn, leaving the top bar unsewn - the product is turned inside out through it. If a zipper was planned, it is inserted between the lining and the front layer. If buttons - they are evenly sewn to the product, having previously marked the bar. Now you need to carefully connect the lining with the top bar and steam the finished winter envelope for a newborn.

How to tie a children's winter plaid
The blanket is knitted even easier. The whole piece is knitted with the chosen pattern, starting and finishing the knitting with the same 4 cm of elastic. Then the sides of the blanket are tied with elastic, selecting loops from the edge.
After this, knit with a small pattern(garter stitch, "rice") square approximately 25x25 cm. Now the insulation and lining are also sewn to the blanket, having cut them out without taking into account the elastic. The knitted square is folded in half, the insulation is placed inside it and sewn with the resulting corner into one of the corners of the blanket so that it forms a hood.
Sometimes mothers knit a blanket with their own hands frommotifs-squares, which are then sewn together. In this case, the ribbing is knitted completely at the end of the work. The rest of the process is carried out similarly to the previous description.
Instead of elastic, you can knit decorative teeth or lace - it all depends on the degree of formality of the blanket and the skill level of the knitting mother.
This winter baby blanket can be included inbedding for newborns: act as a blanket and coverlet in the crib, it is convenient to cover the baby in the stroller on a walk, it is more flexible than a synthetic blanket, for example. It is convenient to massage the baby and swaddle him on it. In addition, a thing knitted with your own hands is always exclusive.
