Wooden Chainsaw Furniture by Bente Hovendal

Bente Hovendal is a Dutch artist andA designer who creates unique wooden furniture using a chainsaw. In her work, she uses local tree species, trying to perfectly understand their texture and physical form. Bente chose a chainsaw as her main tool, with which she creates original and unique furniture masterpieces. This is how the artist herself describes the creative process: “I put on protective clothing, glasses, gloves and start the chainsaw. I work with firmness on the soft wood and allow myself to immerse myself in the power, precision and sound of the tool. All my senses are heightened and my attention is at its limit. The interaction of the saw with natural materials reminds me of my mission and desire to create another sculptural design for furniture.” As a result of such thinking and action, chainsaw furniture was created - tables, stools and shelves, called woodnwonder, which can be literally translated as “wood and wonder, surprise, amazement”.Chainsaw furniture by Bente HovendalThe furniture collection is distinguished by its durability andfunctionality, while at the same time retaining elements of the original life of the wood in its design. Unlike standardized "glossy" production, in these interior items any imperfections of the wood are deliberately emphasized. Cracks, traces of the life of bugs and annual rings are clearly visible on the surface, which adds even more depth to the texture of the wood.wood furniture chainsaw woodnwonderThe common feature of the woodnwonder series isunusual treatment of table and stool legs. It looks as if a dozen wooden pancakes of irregular shape were put in a careless pile and it is about to fall apart. In fact, such a shape is cut from a solid part of a tree trunk and is very stable.wooden shelves woodnwonderI don’t know how such chainsaw furniture will look in the interior of an office or city apartment, but for a summer house or country house – that’s what you need!wooden stools from woodnwonder from Bente Hovendaltexture of a wooden stool woodnwondercouch woodnwonder from Bente Hovendal
