Green arbor from plastic boxes
A magnificent example of landscape design and ecoThe American designers Ann Ha and Behrang Behin presented their work for the annual FIGMENT creative festival in 2010. Their 10-meter-tall structure, a gazebo made of plastic boxes, decorated a park on Governor's Island, New York, all summer and fall. Living Pavilion is an original summer gazebo made of plastic boxes, offering a cozy shady place for rest and relaxation. The smooth wavy lines of the structure fit organically into the surrounding landscape. The highlight of the project is that plastic milk crates with plants planted in them were used as the main building material. On the inside of the gazebo there are plastic boxesare used as pots for a plant called Liriope. The bushes are arranged with their roots upwards, and a special mesh prevents the soil from falling on the heads of the holidaymakers. The upper side of the structure is planted with grass seeds, which help to protect the roots of the Liriope from direct sunlight. During rain, moisture naturally nourishes the plants, and on dry days, of course, regular watering from a hose is required. A large surface evaporation area keeps the inside of the gazebo pleasantly fresh and cool. Some milk crates on the south side of the pavilion are left unplanted, allowing a small amount of light to penetrate into the shady area.
This project is interesting because the idea can befully or partially use in their summer cottages and garden plots. Construction of gazebos from plastic boxes with plants helps to solve several problems at once - reuse of unnecessary containers, vertical internal landscaping of the pavilion, originality and non-triviality of decorative execution. Boxes with plants can be laid out only on the walls of a wooden gazebo or on the roof. The designers themselves suggest improving their design by giving it the shape of a wave of "life and growth" (according to the authors of the project). This shape allows sunlight to act at different angles and with different intensity, which means that certain plants can be planted on the wall depending on the location of the container. It is even supposed to harvest herbs and vegetables, and then simply give them to people! About gazebos http://rembyd.com.ua/accordions/view/stroitelstvo_besedok
