Very often, a sewing machine skips stitches when working with knitwear, so in this case it is necessary to use special sewing needles designed for knitwear. This can significantly facilitate the sewing process and prevent seam defects, which mainly appear when the product is worn. Also, many dressmakers put strips of paper under the machine foot directly along the seam and make a stitch on the paper. This is a bit of a labor-intensive process, but if you want to achieve good quality stitching, it is worth it.
Seams for knitted fabrics are usedelastic. The simplest of the seams is the "zigzag". Its width should be chosen small, from 1 to 2 mm. We choose the average step - from 2 to 3 mm. When hemming the bottom of the product, it is better to use a double needle. It will give a double line on the front side, while on the back side you will get a "zigzag". If the knitwear is of dense quality or voluminous, you can fold the bottom of the product and hem it manually using a blind stitch.
