Hinged dolls with their own hands, a master class, a description of how to make / Toys with their own hands, patterns, video, MK

A distinctive feature of the hinged dollis the mobility of the joints, which allows her to take any pose. Making dolls on hinges with their own hands is a real art, the back side of which is the many hours of painstaking work. The Indian casting master Esther Marker promotes the technology of manufacturing pivoting dolls without roasting from Flumo injection molding. The same method is used by the domestic craftsman Olga Baskakova. But another our compatriot living in Canada Marina Bychkova prefers the traditional technique of making dolls with roasting in the oven. The author's Bichkova dolls are considered to be one of the most expensive in the world - the cost of one copy can reach up to 50 thousand dollars, the most expensive ones go with auctions. Serial dolls produced by various brands cost an order of magnitude cheaper, but also far from budget - from 400 to 1000 cu.

How to make a pivot doll: a sequence of works

The main stages of the work (each of which takes from several hours to several days) are:

  • sketching;
  • manufacturing of a rough model from plasticine;
  • creation of molds for casting from clay or gypsum (molds);
  • pouring plastic into molds and creating details of a future doll;
  • sanding and grinding of parts;
  • firing parts in the oven (some types of injection molding do not require firing);
  • assembly of dolls (installation of hinges and hooks);
  • painting of the product;
  • final touches (clothes, wig, stand).

Articulated dolls

How to start work?

The "birth" of the author's articulate doll begins withmolding of the plasticine model. Despite the seeming simplicity, many novice masters get stuck already at this stage, because molding with their own hands from plasticine a figure with symmetrical proportions is a rather difficult task. Experienced masters, familiar with the norms of anatomy, draw sketches on which mold patterns are drafted. For beginners, it's easier to use the finished source, which you'll have to tinker with, but it's guaranteed to get the same details. Therefore, for example, doll master Olga Baskakova makes articulated dolls with her own hands based on Barbie dolls from flea markets, sorting them into constituent parts. In this case, the products of Baskakova are not bootlegs (copies of toys of famous brands, in this case - Barbie ™). Hinged products differ from the source codes like the sky and earth. The work of the master begins with the disassembly of the dolls for parts using a manicure scalpel. At this stage, from the body parts of the doll, the fixing pins are removed, which connect the fragments together (the pins are easily cut with sharp scissors). Brushes and feet must be separated from the forearms and lower legs for subsequent connection by a hinged attachment. sharnirnye-kukly21

Making a rough model of plasticine

At this stage, you need to recreate all the detailssource, but with holes for the hinges. Olga Baskakova uses sculptural clay to create rough forms. This stage is the most long-playing one, it consists of the following steps:

  • Mold making. A piece of plasticine with a detail (it is most convenient to make them rectangular) is put on a plasticine cake, the edges of which are bent. It turns out a square shape, inside of which lies a fragment of the doll drowned in plasticine.
  • Pouring forms with gypsum solution. After hardening, the clay is removed and a gypsum platform is obtained, inside which the part from Barbie is "immured". To make the second part of the mold, you need to place the platform with the detail on the plasticine cake, bend the edges and pour again with gypsum. Thus, we will get 2 identical platforms (one hollow, inside the second part from the doll, which can already be removed).

Then you can go directly to creating a draft form:

  • lather the matrix with a food film and fill it with plasticine;
  • Pull the plasticine and, gently pulling the film, remove the workpiece. Each of the blanks will be half of a certain detail of the future doll.

Halves are connected together. Thus, all the details of the Barbie doll from plasticine are recreated. Now you need to make rough hinges of plasticine or polymer clay (Baskakova uses clay "cernite") and connect the moving parts together. At this stage, the hinge mounting locations expand in detail. If we compare the plasticine parts of the doll with the fragments of the Barbie source, they will differ just at the junction points. Articulated dollsThe rough model is not one-time, on its basis you can make your own hands a lot of hinged dolls.

How is casting performed?

The next step is casting fragments of the future dollfrom injection plastic. Good plastic Modeling Cast, but there are other types of material (eg Flumo, LaDoll). For this, it is necessary to make gypsum molds on the basis of our plastic parts in the manner described above. When creating molds, a gate is cut in them - a small channel through which plastic will be poured into the cavity of the mold. After solidification of the plastic parts of the mold are disconnected and a solid detail is obtained. The video shows the process of forming the head and body of the doll without using forms:

Machining of finished parts and installation of hinges

The next stage is the grinding of the parts. A delicate porcelain texture, for which hinged dolls are so valued, is achieved by scrupulous grinding of each fragment. Masters use a manicure frieze and fine abrasive paper. Then, hinges must be installed. Find the hinges - not a problem, they are abundantly sold in the stores of hand-made. Some masters prefer to do them themselves, from polymer clay. The main thing is that their color coincides with the color of the doll as much as possible. In the hinges, holes are cut through the rubber bands, then a rough assembly of the doll with elastic bands and hooks is made. Articulated dolls

Bringing Beauty

Now it's time to proceed to pointing the outsidegloss, i.e. priming and painting the details of the dolls with their own hands. Most masters use acrylic dyes as a base, and the final touches are applied pastel. After painting the details are treated with varnish. Particular attention is paid to the face painting. Master Olga Baskakova perfectly knows the art of conveying moods to her products: her dolls are funny, sad, thoughtful. Beginners in the painting, so as not to spoil the product, it is better to paint the face of the doll with the source you like. Articulated dollsThe finishing touches are the outfit of the doll and its wig. If you managed to make a hinged doll with your own hands, it will not be possible to sew an outfit to your taste. The wig can be borrowed from the same Barbie doll or made independently from any material, even remotely resembling hair. Most puppeteers note that it is impossible to comprehend the technology of creating dolls on hinges: it is impossible to create, resting only on instructions. Therefore, master classes on the manufacture of hinged products with their own hands are very popular (as they say, it is better to see once than to read a hundred times), for example, here: https://www.youtube.com/user/Lbrevner/videos.
