If you decide to use real coins, consider that you will need a drill in order to make accurate holes in them. To the tree was a uniform color, buy a golden paint and color all the coins. 
Take the wire, it should be mediumthickness, and begin to twist graceful twigs. Each branch should have three "leaves" of coins.
