The play of light and shadow: the lamps that give the figure shadow
Japanese artist Kumi Yamashita (Kumi Yamashita),living and working in New York, creates amazing installations, the main theme of which is the play of light and shadow. Chaotically scattered on the wall, numbers, letters, figures become meaningful when directed light falls on them. An unusual theater of frozen shadows is born - silhouettes of people and persons. The artist describes his work in this way: "I mold a shadow from the light, sometimes light from the shadow, but in that, and in another case - in the same way. I take the objects, give them shape and place them in a certain place from a single light source. Consequently, the finished work includes both material objects and intangible ones. Such an alliance gives birth to art - a play of light and shadow. "
Even an ordinary piece of paper, slightly rumpled, gives a shadow in the form of a face profile.
From afar it is completely unclear where the shadow of the seated person comes from. Take a closer look, the whole secret is in the shelf or chair, on which the person is sitting.
Such installations are more suitable for exhibitionhalls and galleries of contemporary art. But you can imagine such a decor in the interior of a modern apartment. Wall bracket, used for reading, can cast no less interesting shadows thanks to the nearby objects or the non-standard form of the plafond.
